    I want some American Wheels.

I don't need a truck. I do need somethng that will go fast on the highway and keep my luggage dry and be able to get to the campsite or just bust over all the ripped-up roads around here.

I want some American metal. I just do.

I'm thinking a Yukon Denali but I know I'm gonna have a problem with the floaty ride. Gas is no problem since the Allroad gets just as bad and needs Premium.

    Sell me something, America!!

    diesel Grand Cherokee???

  7. #7
Hell, even if you can't do the diesel, the Grand Cherokees and the Jeep line have actually come a long way in the last 10 years, big improvements in quality and ride, or so I hear anecdotally. The difference between my '96 Grand and my dad's 04 Grand is remarkable. Still guzzles the petrol though.

    Diesel would be kewl.

Typically when one says truck, they are referring to a pickup truck, and not an SUV.

If you get a Grand Cherokee, get the V8. I've had both, and the V8 actually gets better mileage. The performance is obviously much better, too.

Probably my #1 recommendation is a F-150 Crew cab with a matching fiberglass cap. The interior of an SUV, with actually pretty good rear seating, and a bed that you can throw all your belongings in. Also, Ford has a little tighter steering than Chevy's. I know what you mean about the floaty feel.

My 05 version of that ^^ is not floaty. So you may want to try something like that too, Ice.

Edit: I have top of the line interior package on my F-150, and I still think it's not as nice inside as a pimped chevy, but it handles more like a "truck," than the chevy if that makes sense.

Sounds an awful lot like he does want a truck to me. Not a cute ute, not a car, a truck. Even if it is a bit Jersey-soccer-mom, a truck nonetheless.

Floaty is referring to the Yukon Denali. I can why you'd hate that, though.

My sister just bought the Jeep Commander and so far loves it.

I test drove the GMC Acadia, their crossover vehicle with AWD, and really liked the ride.

Change the shocks. Rancho make adjustables that will give you a pretty firm highway ride and they do well on logging roads as well.

of course a denali won't do so well on a logging road without about 10" of lift and 35's

If you wait say.. 1 month... Generous Motors will be releasing there Hybrid Full Size SUV... But it's 70% Mexican, 15% Canadian, 5% Asian, 5% American content. So it's not really American per say.

100% agreed on this statement. The I-6 just doesn't cut it in the mountains. Even the newer V-6 would suck compared to the 8 cyl.

I test drove the Commanders about two weeks ago. It was alright. Lots of interior passenger space up front. My gripes were: cargo area is wasted with 3rd row seats that fold into the floor and the finishing felt a little cheap.
But, they are blowing out the 07's with heavy discounts. Jeep was doing a $4k rebate and then the dealer here willingly took another $3k off on top of that. They wanted me to buy a Commander with a sticker of $32k for $25k, which isn't too bad. If it had had leather interior, I might have actually done it.

Okay regardless of budget or the new used question I'm gonna go ahead and say it:

The pimpest vehicle for what you're describing is a diesel Ford Excursion.

As an added benefit, they're easy to turn into just fire breathing power monsters.
