What's in Your Crock Pot
Okay...so bachelor dude gets a crock pot thanks to sister's Best Buy gift certificate. I made pork chimichangas yesterday. Loaded her up before I went to work, came home to goodness I've never experienced. I'm sold. This thing makes totally inept cooks like me into some sort of master.
What's in our crockpot? Bonus points for recipes!
Pork Chimichangas:
3lbs of pork roast
2 cups salsa
2 cups water
Seasoning (I used "mexican" seasoning with added salt, pepper and pepper flakes)
Tortillas
Any veggies you want. Onions, corn and peppers are recommended.
Shredded cheese
Slap the pork, water, seasoning and veggies in the pot. Cook on low for 9 hours. Take out meat from water and put in large bowl. Pull apart with 2 forks. Add salsa and mix well.
Throw mixture on tortilla, add cheese. Wrap it up and throw it no a skillet. I just used the skillet to brown it and make it crispy, but you can add an inch of canola oil if you want a true chimi.
Enjoy."All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring."

Just received an All-Clad Deluxe slow cooker as a wedding gift. What should be it's inaugural kickoff meal? Any suggestions?

Not a crock pot meal, but in a similar vein- braised short ribs are about the easiest thing to make in the world and are (obviously) fucking delicious. They're becoming my go-to dinner for when we have company- you pretty much brown them, throw them in the oven for three hours, do whatever shit you need to do while your house fills with delicious cooking scents, and = PROFIT!!! You can also mix up the recipe a lot- last week I used Sammy Smith Oatmeal Stout instead of broth- and it'll come out awesome. Pretty much an idiot-proof meal.

*
Chicken thighs (you may prefer boneless)
Can of mushroom soup
Can of cheese soup
Sprinkle some parmasan on top
Maybe add some spice like celery...
Serve on a bed of stuffing (like the 5 minute kind)
* been a while since I was in charge of the kitchen, but I think that's all that was in there...

My gf has a crockpot, and seeing as how she's moving in, I have a crockpot! Keep recipes coming.

Crockpot comprises prob 30% of my cooking. Here are some favs:
-Vegetable bonanza (every vegetable you can find, throw it in with some chicken or beef stock)
-Split Pea w/ chicken -or- ham
-Chicken noodle/vegetable whatever
-Huli huli chicken (Sweet shoyu)
-faux chicken marsala w/mushrooms
-pork carnitas (cook in the crock, shred, and broil crispy in oven)
-Zuppa Toscana - potatoes, sauerkraut, turkey sausage, milk, parmesan
-Bigosu - Polish soup with kielbasa, bacon, onion, tomato, sauerkraut AND cabbage
-Chicken Marinara
-Mexican beef - shit-ton of peppers, onions, beef of choice
With an onion, meat of choice (or just stock), some veggies, noodles, rice, whatever...you could be happy a long time. I'm heading for the crock now.
Edit: Chicken split pea w/onions and carrots has been launched.Last edited by bio-smear; 10-18-2007 at 01:50 PM.

Chopped chicken (breast, thighs, whatever).
Frozen or fresh veggies (any will work).
Chicken stock (or vegetable, use bullion).
Diced potatoes (I prefer un-peeled red but peeled regular will work too).
Tablet of red curry (available in the asian section of the store, comes in a thick red or yellow paper package about 2"x4").
Cook 8 hours on low or 4 hours on high. A perfect curry stew. This touchy-feely Kumbaya shit has got to go.

Here's what works for me in a crockpot (or a pyrex casserole dish):
Chopped up pork loin or boneless pork chops
Chopped up butternut squash
small amount of diced onions
Baby Carrots
Chopped celery
Walnuts
raisins
A bottle of BBQ Sauce (I like KC Masterpiece)
Cook it forever...and it's YUM!

we love our crockpot. it's great when you have a little time to prep in the a.m. but are going to be gone all day, say, skiing. Then you get home and there's an awesome meal ready to eat. Try a pot roast or chicken & dumplings- those are 2 of my faves. A slow cooker recipe book is useful. I think the one we have is called Delicious & Dependable Slow Cooker Recipes.

5 pound pork roast, browned
1 onion, sliced
1 red bell pepper, coarsely chopped
2 carrots, cut into circles
1/4 C. brown sugar, not packed
1 can crushed pineapple or a fresh one, sliced
1 T. tomato paste
1 T. soy sauce
salt and pepper to taste
a pinch of ground ginger or a few slices fresh
Add the pork roast to the slow cooker after browning it. In the same pan you browned the roast in, add the remaining ingredients. Stir together to blend and add to the cooker.
Cook on low for 8 hours. Serve over rice.
