    Question Recco System?

Does anybody know much about this system? Supposedly it aids in avalanche SAR. I will be heading out to Jackson Hole for a week this year, and my boots have the Recco System, should they be an alternative for a beacon, or just a supplement?

    Thanks,

Lets be very clear of one thing here. Are you going with a group? If you're going to be the only person with a beacon, don't bother.

The problem is you can only survive like a half hour at most buried. In other words, if there isn't someone else in your party who has a beacon and can search for ya, you're fucked.

Also, even easy beacons like the Tracker still require practice to be able to locate people before they suffocate. (Which of course implies that someone else in your party better have practice to find you.)

I've thought about that myself, but then... don't my fellow skiers want me with a digital receiver if they get buried, so that I don't depend too much on them practicing weekly? I know I'd like them to have one (and a big motherfuckin' metal shovel, thank you).

I'm gonna practice, don't worry. But I know I'll practice less than a patroller or someone who does mostly BC, so for the guys like me, I think a digital is better. If not, I'm all for saving $130 and getting one of mntlion's F1!
