Monday Night Football - Refs needed.
Quite possibly the WORST call I've ever seen in any Professional sports game.
Couldn't they reverse the call on the field after WATCHING it 20 times on a half-dozen monitors?
Disgusting that Tampa has to take a loss like that, just so the Colts can make it into the history books.
That is all.

You missed my post your thread, eh?
Oh yeah, I watched it. (GO SOX!)
However, the football game went into overtime in what was a great game. And Tampa got screwed.
From Sportsline: "Vanderjagt had missed a potential winning field goal from 40 yards wide right a play earlier -- it would have been his first miss of the season in 13 attempts -- but Tampa Bay's Simeon Rice was called for leaping and landing on a teammate and the Colts got another chance."
They showed the play repeatedly & it was blatanty clear that there WAS no penalty. But for some ungodly reason, the call stood, and Vanderjackoff bounced a 29yd attempt in off the right upright. Silliest ending to a football game I've ever seen.

I totally agree with you. I understand the logic behind the rule, but come on, that call was seriously ridiculous. I was pulling for TB anyway, but the Colts definitely didn't deserve that win.

That loss could have been avoided if 'one of the best defenses ever' didn't allow 28 4th quarter points. Screw tampa bay.

you must not have seen the play against the titans which ended the steelers season last year? very similar.

I do agree the call was bogus, however, it was no worse than the phantom roughing the punter the Bucs got at the end of the game.
Edit: check that, it was during OT the Bucs got that call. Still did nothing with the ball.

It's just that the "W" in the column wasn't one of them.

I agree - hated to see it end on that note because it was a ridiculous call. But Tampa getting screwed? Please. You give away that many points in four minutes... It's like they were trying to lose.

10-07-2003, 12:22 PM #11That call was just as stupid. The kicker landed cleanly, stepped on the guy and did a great acting job to get a penalty.Originally posted by CS
