    Posting What Lenses you have in your Signature. Why?

    What's the story with members of photography forums always putting what lenses, camera, computers, etc they have in there signature? Is it just for dick waving purposes? I can see posting it in refrence to an image, but don't really see any point in having it in your signature. Did I miss something?

    I am not much of a photographer nor do I have a sig. However, I guess I could see someone saying, "Oh, dbp has a D80. I'm thinking about buying one of those. I should ask him about it." Maybe?

    ... but yeah, I'm sure it is mostly a quiver/dick waving thing.

    edit: or maybe so they don't have to answer certain equipment questions everytime they post a photo?

    It happens with stereophiles too, so I would guess it is the dick waving. If that was it though, wouldn't we see that behavior around here?

    Total dick waving. Photographers (in general) are a bunch of weirdo nerd fuckers. They've gotta have SOMETHING to brag about apparently.

    I have a feeling these same "photographers" are the people at weddings etc. always bugging the photographer about their setup, shop talk, yapping about the new lens they just bought, etc. annoying.
