Flex G4 v. Titan 9
How stiff is the titan 9 compared to the g4 and is one more forgiving (relatively) than the other?
If you "search jong" me, please also tell me how to search "g4".
Thanks

hmmmmm
Last i heard, Volkl used to make a ski called the g4. Try searching for "volkl g4"

yep - tried that. The search excludes "g4" whether you put "volkl" next to it or not (it just pulls up every unhelpful "volkl" hit). It might just be a limitation with the search function on this bulletin.
Either way - someone has to have at least fondled both a g4 and titan 9 - what's the word?
Thanks

No 1st hand knowledge... at least from snow.
But I did have have the old softer Titan 9.2's and they were considerably softer than G3's or G4's (hand flexin'). Even thought he Titan 9 is supposed to be stiffer (or rather the XXL was stiffer than the Titan 9.2), I'm having a hard time believing that they'd be stiffer than a G4.
So the Titan 9 (in 188cm) will be wider and also has a tad more sidecut, plus easier to ski in general. The shorter Titan 9 was supposed to be skinnier (~86mm waist) making it about the same size as the G4, only softer and still more sidecut.
But as said, haven't skied either of the skis, only hand flexed a few G4's in different sizes and hand flexed the Titan 9 plus skied it's earlier softer version the Titan 9.2.

I own both AX4 and Titan 9. To me, they don't ski alike. The AX4 is bomber. Very stiff, not much sidecut. Sort of an "old school" ski. Great in chop; it's not easily bounced around. I feel confident skiing the AX4 in just about anything. The Titan 9 is softer (although stiff when compared to many other skis. More sidecut. Great on hardpack, western groomers, boot high pow and in trees (glades). The Titan 9 is turnier than the AX4.
Both skis rip; they just do it differently."My policies are based not on some economics theory, but on things I and millions like me were brought up with: an honest day's work for an honest day's pay; live within your means; put by a nest egg for a rainy day; pay your bills on time; support the police." i've skied both but with a few years in between. i skied the G4s when i was a much worse skier than i am now...
i'd echo what people say above. the G4 felt like quite a tank - esp as it was the first "fat" ski i had been on at the time. very stiff and damp. the titan is much lighter and livelier. i've skied the 188 titan and own the 181 for touring. I really enjoy both skis. They're definitely on the stiff side but not as stiff as the G4 or the other ski I use a lot - the legend profur bearing, drunk, prancing eurosnob

Great - thanks for the info everyone. I think that seals it. I hate to let the G4s go, but the Titan 9 sounds like a better hardack/crud ski for me. Anyone want to sell me their 181s?
