True. I'm not THAT good at tracking motion yet, and truth be told, this image was in a 3-shot sequence, but I anticipated some blurring at that shutter speed and was hoping just to get SOMETHING in sharp focus in the frame. I succeeded two frames later, but the composition isn't quite as interesting (in my opinion).

    But does intent really matter?

(Taking more pictures increases the chances that ONE of them will be decent.)

Is that just one-dimensional enough motion to where you could swing the camera on a tripod and hope you swung at the same speed he moved relative to the film plane? Looks like a pretty difficult shot to get. Kudos indeed.
I'm guessing Monopod. You actually don't need to track the subject "perfectly." As long as you're close the relative motion is small enough that at 1/250 it is frozen compared to the background, which is moving by much faster, relatively.

Cam rig is on a monopod. Just put the focus point on the center of the bike...pan with it and fire off 4 or 5 shots. It all happens within less than 1 second, but it's not that hard with a little practice.

Sometimes, they make it easy by not moving.

Astro's pictures don't count- they're too fucking good. They're in the big-boys contest, not ours.

By the way, Max- make sure you post more pics. I love reading Squatch and Rontele make fun of you.

    Rules:

    1. Photos must be taken within the time period of the contest.

    2. You may submit 3 photos during the competition.

    3. The contest moderator will choose 5 of the photos to put in a poll for the mags to vote on and decide the winner.

    4. The winner will get a happy feeling in his/her pants. (That is a rule by the way not an option)

    5. Winner will be the contest starter/moderator for the next comp.

Heh... I've taken a few shots since I've been home that could easily be technically criticized but would be hard to make fun of and call "shitty". As usual, I'm having internet problems and have to take 7 steps to do what most people can accomplish in 3 as far as uploading.

I hate computers. I've begun to understand why my dad has said that his whole life.

Edit: Yeah, I vote Astro's don't count, unless we divide into "amateur" and "professional" categories. The man will d3s7r0yyyy us!!11!1!1!! Those shots are really, REALLY cool with the heat blurring the lines on the track, Astro. Kudos yet again.

If you are having so many problems, why don't you do the prudent thing and reserve some space on the internet for your pictures, make everyone wait like three months, then post the pictures after the lure (if there was any) has worn off?

You make it too easy sometimes.

Future lawyer and POTENTIAL future doctor. Gotta get there first.

    Wouldn't it be "lore"?

At any rate, I like the jazz picture. Makes me think of how fluid and dynamic jazz is.

Nice shot, HFT, wish I had been there - Mr. Marsalis (and his brother) bring it.
