Maggot Photo Contest - "Motion" 06/20/07 - 07/04/07
I decided on Motion as the topic for the first contest, though gravity took a close second, since it was someone else's idea I thought I'd come up with something on my own. Anyways let see it mags!
Rules:
1. Photos must be taken within the time period of the contest.
2. You may submit 3 photos during the competition.
3. The contest moderator will choose 5 of the photos to put in a poll for the mags to vote on and decide the winner.
4. The winner will get a happy feeling in his/her pants. (That is a rule by the way not an option)
5. Winner will be the contest starter/moderator for the next comp.Last edited by brice618; 06-20-2007 at 06:05 AM.

I am somewhat disappointed that the first topic was not "female nudes".
Putting the "core" in corporate, one turn at a time.

So photos go here? Nothing great, but it gets the party started and I may not be able to play for a couple of months due to impending work.
Come on happy feeling in my pants!

I got to thinking about this and I think maybe we should say the moderator can post pictures but can't choose his/ her own photos for the final vote. How does that sound?

Since I'm absolved of choosing my own, I'll put some up that aren't taken within the dates as I'm ridiculously too busy to get out and shoot new stuff (though I'm going to try and make some time soon)... here are a few that I thought really captured "motion" with a shot.

My friend's band at Burt's Tiki lounge June 22. Uggh I was a little too drunk to make any shots like this work(1 second shutter speed, rear curtain flash sinc, trying to pan/focus on dude's face).

Here's my first submission... a shot I took today at Centennial Cone in Golden. Rider is Erik, pic was taken with a Canon Powershot SD550.

Another... not a ton of motion in this particular picture, but my dogs didn't stop running all day yesterday and this was one of the best shots I took. Picture was taken above Loveland Pass, looking to the west over Keystone and Breck.

Ah, so it registers in the EXIF even if it doesn't fire? (I'm assuming you left it mounted)

No, actually, the flash did in fact fire. At shutter speeds faster than the rated sync speed of 1/250 sec it fires in "Auto FP High-Speed Sync" mode which allows for sync at the higher shutter speeds...anything faster than 1/250 sec...but with less output. But still enough to add a little fill flash.

Bah! I really liked this shot from 6/4/07, but that makes it ineligible. I'll include it just for your (potential) viewing pleasure.
Camera: Canon Powershot S2 IS
Date Taken: 6/4/07
F-stop: f/5.6
Exposure time: 1/50 sec.
ISO speed: 50
Camera Mode: Aperature Priority
Exposure Bias: +0.3 step
Focal length: 130 mm (35 mm equiv)
Filter: Polarizer (??? Can't remember)
Max aperature: 3.625
Metering Mode: Center Weighted Average
Subject: My friend (and trusty action-shot subject this summer) Adam

Here is a question: With 4th of July weekend/vacation, can we give 'til the 4th to TAKE the pictures, but until that Friday (the 6th, I guess?) to SUBMIT the pictures? I think a few days to organize, process, edit, upload, etc. should be allotted after the picture-taking period during these contests. Anyone else agree? I know I'll be taking a bunch of pictures over that weekend that I won't get to upload until after I get home on the 4th.
Edit:
[Billy Madison Academic Decathlon Scene]Heh heh. He's good.[/BMADS]
Astro, how in the world did you follow that biker so perfectly? I assume the only way to get him so still and everything else so blurred, even at 1/250, was to track perfectly the motion of the subject. At 400 mm, any faults in the path of your hands with the camera would be hugely multiplied. Is that just one-dimensional enough motion to where you could swing the camera on a tripod and hope you swung at the same speed he moved relative to the film plane? Looks like a pretty difficult shot to get. Kudos indeed.Last edited by Deep Days; 07-04-2007 at 06:20 PM.
