I had a great weekend I figure I biked at least 70kms over 2 days. 35% of that was up hill. Fark if biking isnt an expensive sport! Ive dumped 100 bucks already in a month of riding on broken parts and I still have to spend more.

cb if you can sell the dukes then sell them I cant buy crap for a while. It is hard for me to walk into rappie and get him to mount the things when he offered me 44000 mounted.

    here was my weekend

70kms! I am glad I couldn't make it, I would have died! Anyway, I got a cold on sat so it wouldn't have been great driving back on Sunday night.

Got some siiiick pow there last dosojin, and there's some big cliffs and amazing treed slidepaths that I'd love to re ski and film. Amazing scenics even for Japan. Not the biggest and cleanest lines, but really different. My bro will be there for a month. I should be touching down in mid dec, maybe go see Kyoto and party in Tokyo a bit while I wait for the snow to dump, then hit HPL and the Noze. Also keen to see Shiga, I've never been and it loks like a massive resort.

FT - Snow last night? Nice. We should be there tomorrow evening checking out homes on Sunday (if we get our shit together).

Hot and humid in Tk today. And from memory, this is a cool one. Glad I missed summer.

Diz - I am in town all next week and free up until 3pm each day if that suits you for a beer and something.

No probs, next weekend maybe. We were pretty busy visiting houses anyway. One was cool: $85,000, solid, 20 years old, 1050m2 block, 4 bedrooms, very secluded, no garden or such crap, private onsen bore, two monkeys hanging out on the property.

    Monkeys. In the back yard.

    Buy.

Didn't actually buy it. But I probably would if it wasn't so rushed. Shop around, all that stuff.

So... I guess it aint Niseko.

There is no reason not to try it in late winter rather than waitring for a corn-out. Spring lines become important if winter is super cold and the delicate thin pack just wont stick to the underlying glacier ice above the 'schrund. The Kita Alps isnt really like that, it can be warmer with a sticker faster settling pack and obviously no ice. Hopefully it lets you carefully think about lines a little earlier in the winter.

I am planning a couple of weeklong winter trips up into Kamikochi, mostly just poking around with less emphasis on flat out riding.

Is it me, or is that a dodgy place to have a lodge?

that place only opens in may. I wouldnt want to be there in December actually there is no save way up or down that valley, unless you go the very long way around. That means a few camps or one camp depending. The Bluecliff team go in there alot. I like it but its a slog and the weather has to be right to spend 3 days in there.

    Great pic!

    >only open in May...

Yeah, but you can skin the road before it opens to traffic. There is a limited bus service right up until the permenant summer barrier to private cars. Skin from there.

Its a multi day trip for sure, but the valley is quite wide and mostly safe-ish until it narrows, or maybe not. I'm planning on building and stocking on igloo right up towards the end of the valley. I'm talking the Kamikochi valley bending round on the right with the river.

You can get in there that isnt the problem. The valley that is Karasawa is a death trap when its got fresh snow. I was there when a class 3 ripped out and rolled close to camp and the was just in May. Slept with my beacon on that night.

db with teh lodge and a full time job I wont be able to do these types of trips. Only lucky retired guys get to dream this big.

Convince a heli driver or pilfer a sled and you'd get in there pretty quick. I'm sure no one would see you in there on your sled despite the legalities....

If the snow/weather's like last season when I'm there I'd be in on such a trip.
