You said the same thing before throttling hard on that crappy old motorbike up at school with your legend of a younger brother riding reverse pillion ....... holding a power kite.

My sig is a quote from the Suit last year - the kite flew... sadly, I flew too and was a Darwin Awards contender.

I'm totally up for this but the redundancy money won't stretch to a Japan trip. I'm out for now, but when the new job picks up I may come back again.

(Besides, you lot just want a gander at my extremo girl steeze me thinks? )

Ive had no time to work on this busy day at work.

If you want biglines and 350 to 550 inches of snow per season then hakuba has got it.

The patrol can be anal if you duck trees at 47 and goryu but that is their rules. You can duck a rope or go around a rope and ski tree lines all day or biglines.
Happo has no rules if you can see it you can ski it.

I wont go into the Niseko debate other than to say that beening that flat will never attract me.

Wink will put out a TV program about Hakuba. You can watch kina, Will B, Bryce from Evogear and Billy P from Black diamond slay and muck around in the Hakuba BC.

Season pass prices are 300 to 600 US. The lifts open at 8 and close between 4 and 5. The lifts have been known to open as early as half 7.

Day tickets are 7500 for 2 days so about 70 bucks.

Lodging from 3000 yen a night and up. I charge 50000 for a month for a bed.

Food Eating out is cheaper than anywhere in NA. 20 bucks will get you a few beers and lots of food. We have mex, korean, indian, thai, organic Italian, Japanese trad. modern japanese, etc.

The supermarket is expensive but heck its a resort town. hint hint shop on tuesdays cause its local night. All produce and meats get knocked down in price.

For travelers buy the JR east flexible 4 day pass. 20000 yen and you can go anywhere Tokyp to Nagano up north (not hokkaido) any 4 days that you want. There are also door to airport taxis for 11500 oneway. these must be booked in advance of a week though.

If you get hakuba when it is going off it is about as good as it gets. snow pounding, great steep trees. When the snow stops and settles you can slay some of the best BC lines In Japan.

If anyone needs info just ask.
Cant spell check im on the fly here are some vids.

FT, Ian gave me a wicked print of you ripping Hakuba that I am supposed to give to you. I may just keep it and say it is me... Seriously, ask him for an electronic copy to post, it is sweet (or was he shooting with film?)

Really looking forward to seeing how much steeper Hakuba is than the Niseko area, because most of the posted pics don't show much of a difference. The backdrops yes. The skiing no

You have to be joking mate! Nisekos steeps course averages are the pits.
You also have no idea about the snowfall in japan mate.

http://www.grand-hirafu.jp/en/mountain/map.html a wisked average of 21 degrees is the steepest. Cortina as a whole resort is steeper than that.
Will Burks commented that he was skiing pretty much the steepest trees that he ever skied.

Tell me where you are going to find this in Niseko?
    http://www.youtube.com/user/pweeturgeon
    http://www.youtube.com/user/smith6969

Eveything in the above picture is 35 to 50 degrees and runs at that pitch for well over 600 to 800 vertical meters. Every Niseko skier that has told me how steep Niseko is has always been blown away by the difference. Find me one picture of Niseko without Yotei in it. Find a trail map of niseko wtih annapuri in it. You ever wonder why there are so few pics of that mountain(hill)?

This is all skiable! I could go on.

Niseko niether gets the most nor the deepest snowpack in Japan, it is just well marketed. Hakuba gets a meager 400 to 550 inches of snow per season at mid mountain. Well over that at 1800 meters.
PS. we can still ski in Hakuba

I concur, there is no comparison between Hakuba and Niseko. Niseko just happens to have western ownership with a western PR machine.

    Thanks Fattwins.

That's what I was looking for. Just said what I saw in most of the previous pics. Rectified in the latest links you posted.

If you go back and read what I posted I purposely stayed away from the north v south slanging match seeing as I haven't been to Honshu. My comparisons were with resorts I've skied.

sorry i just go down that road all the time.

straight on pics always look flat. the pic you posted although deep and very nice looks like 5 degrees. Angles dont come out unless the photog and the rider work together. Niseko will give what niseko gives. A good party some light dry snow and some good lines. I for one want that couloir or that rock line with perfect boot deep or corn. When thats not on then there is various deep powder and 9 resorts within 20 minutes of my door.

No sweat. Know how it is.

Was always trying to 'stick up' for Kicking Horse in conversations with Whistler and Fernie acolytes.

And give me a break, it was easy 8 degrees.

    Big generalised question to finish.

If I wanted to sample the steeps, when's best?
