NSR TR: Eaglesmere Lakes hike CO

My girlfriend and I (and two dogs) went hiking yesterday about 20 miles north of Silverthorne above the Green Mtn Reservoir, to Eaglesmere Lakes. We went about 7 miles round trip with a vert of 2,000 feet. The hike was one of the nicer ones we've done lately- it started in a HUDGE aspen forest and continued into a nice, shady pine forest. From there, we started running into some snow banks- nothing too deep- and eventually ended up at a pair of lakes which laid underneath Eagles Nest Peak, at 13,400'. It was a perfect Colorado day in the mountains- sunny and 70* with a slight breeze... can't ask for much more.

Talley (front) and Yoshi running around like mad dogs:

Looking up the trunk of a giant aspen:

It was like this everywhere for the first two miles:

Sarah posing with the view to the east behind her:

Yoshi wondering where to go next:

Views to the west of Eagles Nest:

Closeup of the pine forest. You can see the damage the pine beetles have created- it almost looks like fall with the colors.

    Still running.

The trail traversed this really steep slope in a few places... don't slip!

    Some flowers, some aspen...

Some nice pics in there. Thanks for sharing.

Can you somehow make the vertical pics larger?

Yeah, I could- but I'm at work right now and I don't have access to the actual files. I just saved the Shutterfly pictures as new files and used those... which is why they're all the same vertical height. I can fix 'em later.

    Nice Steve.

I think I've done that same hike - we camped out up there for a night by a little lake. Sure were some nasty Mosquitoes though.

    I'd hit it:

That's sort of close to my home. Beauty of a spot. Eagles Nest is a great place for camping.
