Thread: Fenders?

I know it sounds lame, but...any favorite fenders out there? Seems like THE is the go-to, but I'm open to whatever.

I never considered them before but Ohio is wet. Even when the trails are dry, you consistently ride across little bogs and springs that just splatter you with mud. Saturday did a ride around an old mine and riding through some of that runoff, I wasn't too stoked to have that toxic gunk splashing up on my face. Fender time.

I too need a pair of fenders, but for my commuting bike (and probably not really until fall).

Any experience that's willing to speak?

Sorry I forget the brand but the fenders that mount on your downtube to prevent water/mud from flying up.

I have also seen guys make this design with half a plastic pop bottle. (the big kind)
I don't really like the look of fenders cause I only bike to look cool. So this minamilst design works well for my needs. I will check a catalouge for you to determine brand.
edit: Planet bike makes them as do others. Cheap and they work. I don't care to much about mud/water on my back so I don't use a rear.

J, I always thought the mud splash was one of the best parts of mountain biking. I actually miss riding back East on somewhat wet trails. Although if you are riding thru some toxic shit, I would just note that ride and decide on another in those conditions.

For me fenders are only for commuting.

fondig as for mud splash, yeah I don't mind getting it on me, thus I only care about a front fender. It's just the toxic shit and if it's not that, it's the disgusting rotting mud bog puddle that smells like poo when you ride through it. Seems like every trail out here has some nastiness. No it's not necessary, but neither is the gravitydropper I just ordered - but both are gonna make the rides out here a little nicer.

I'm gonna try out a THE DH fender and see how it works. Besides I'm running a 4X bike so it'll look all moto'd out and sickter!

I beg to differ about the gravity dropper. I do think it is a necessity now. Kind of like how mountain bikers thought shocks were years ago. Couldn't imagine not having them now.

And yeah I got THE DH fender from like 2000, but never use it. Took it off immediately when I got my first Dare.

Riding during monsoon season at Snowshoe, I developed eyeball callouses that allowed me to instantaneously blink the globs of mud to the corners with no ill effect. You haven't lived until you've spent an evening digging mud out of your nose and eyes.
