5th Annual Radar Speed Trap Day ! ! !
Coming up next Friday morning (the 27th of April) at 8:45A for our little 2 hour window of opportunity.
I will also be more than happy to go with Saturday the 28th at the same time for either a second session, or perhaps a fallback plan should weather mess up Friday morning.
Who's in this year?
C'mon kiddies, you know you've always wanted to know how fast you're really going....

Can I bring my sled? I'll be staying up in BCC for the weekend.

I'm still pissed that you didn't do a midweek basin day while I was there. Were you afraid I'd go too fast and break your gun?

Do it somewhere that you can take snowmobiles to. Then Mike Wilson will do it on his sled.

Tram plaza, 0845. We'll take the first tram and take readings around the mountain before the crowds arrive.

Do it on a steeper piste than last time.

If someone ever wants to do this in Tahoe, PM me. I have a radar gun and we have fun with it every year when we race a SG at Northstar. I know there are places at Alpine or Squaw where we could get up a good head of steam.

I just want to be the first this year to say that you are all lying. There is no way you can go that fast with those baggy clothes on those fat skis!

I suck at making commitments to things like this. Having left the door open for a possible no-show, I want to mix it up with the World Cup wannabes this year.
Don’t race. Leave that to the scorchers.

Change of plans!
There has been a change of plans regarding the upcoming 5th Annual Radar Speed Trap Day: Session 2 has been canceled and will either be held Friday, the 4th of May, or Saturday, the 5th, depending on the weather.

THE RESULTS ARE IN !
Session 1 of the 5th Annual Speed Trap Day is in the history books.
Highest speeds of the participants-
ColdSmoke: 72 MPH on 194cm B-Squads (to reach that speed at 1PM is amazing. It is the highest speed I've ever recorded after 12 noon as the snow gets so slow. It makes me think he could have had a shot at 80 if he'd gotten his butt out of bed this morning)
BushwackerinPA: 70 MPH on 183 Goats (Pretty dang impressive considering he was on serious twin tips)
Endlessseason: 68 MPH on 193 NoKaOi's (this was while holding two poles in one hand and the radar gun in the other. Radared everybody else the rest of time.)
Pointedem: 67 MPH on 194 Dynastar XXL's (whilst slaloming humanoids)
StPete: 57 MPH on short Pocket Rockets (good showing for his very first time. He guessed he was going no more than 45)
Pointedem's friend: 29 MPH on a snowboard (She wasn't even trying--just having casual fun)
All in all a very fun morning. Perfect conditions. Incredible viz.
I'll check this thread the next few days to see if there's enough interest for a Session 2 next Friday or Sat morning.Last edited by Endlessseason; 04-27-2007 at 03:00 PM. Reason: correction on Bushwacker's ski length
