Sweet. I got mad on the weekend and pulled off three pairs of bindings for nothing.

Thanks Salomon and thanks to skiers that care.

I just scored a pair of 900s 914's off of fleabay for <$50, and I think I'm going to put them on my new 186 Lhasa Pow's. They are coming with the yellow plastic riser plates (can't find / be bothered to look for a pic) but you know what I mean... my question it, should I use them on the Lhasa's, or not? My gut says to ski them flat, without the lifters... but I don't know why. Maybe I'm wrong?

Some of us who use these bindings are required to do this in fact - people like patrollers who work on their skis, and want to have a hope in hell of getting worker's compenasation coverage if they blow a knee for example...
This would have been a blow to my quiver and my pocket book if the 997 was off the list.

Quick question relating to the 5th hole on newer heels...I'm picking up a pair of spats drilled and plugged for a 4 hole heel. I was gonna drill small holes in the plugs and pull em out or drill into them and mount them up. I think it's probably pretty important to get the 5th hole mounted especially since I'm drilling into plugs. So question is, can I mount up the heel and use the 5th hole on the binding as a template? I figure if all 4 holes are already centered and in then there's no way the 5th hole could be off center.
I plan on putting the binding on the ski and only screwing in 2 screws as not to weaken all the holes, using a sharpie and a center punch to mark my hole, removing the heel, and drilling the 5th hole
Does that sound okay or should I just not bother with the 5th hole?

I´d use them as a template, mark the 5th hole, remove heel from ski, drill, mount.
Might just hold the binding on there though, without any screws involved.
As long as you screw the 5th hole last (nice sentence...) the binding will be perfectly centered, so no chance of a mismount.
Plenty of people ski them with four screws though.simen@downskis.com DOWN SKIS

Wes,
Use Jondrum's templates located here:
[ame="http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153971"]Binding Mount Paper Templates - Teton Gravity Research Forums[/ame]
It's much easier to position a paper template, no screws involved, just be sure you double-check the print scaling (ruler) on the side of the template first. Jon also posted a walk-thru, see post #77. If you have a single hole punch, just take the template, carefully fold across the front and rear holes and punch out the semi-circles. When you unfold, you will have the 4 corners you can easily 'peg' into your existing holes (use golf tees or something similar) to center the jig.
No question about the 5th hole, use it.

Yeah I have one of his templates from freehanding a set of Sollies earlier this summer, I'll probably just use that. I figure if the hole is a tiny bit off, having 4 of 5 screws in will make it so that the screw expands the hole in whatever direction it needs to be centered
That's the hardest part I've found about freehanding a set of skis. Once you get your holes drilled, the screws can expand the holes off center and completely shift your binding by a few mm's

Just got some Moment DPs that came with 914labs. On one brake one of the two tabs that go into the slots to secure the brake before screwing it in is bent. It must have been overlooked when the brakes were put on. Now it is bent and will not go into the slot properly.
The brake still sits fairly flush and doesnt affect the boot interface as far as i can see but is this an issue. I tried bending it back but its not happening.
Should i leave this as is? I was considering just grinding off that tab so that the other side and screw will be holding the brake steady, and it will sit properly.
any ideas?...because warm beer is infinitely colder than no beer.
