Looking for some cheap old sollys etc to mount on some recently procured spats, and this thread helped narrow it down!Best Skier on the Mountain

Thanks North for the hookup!
Anyone know if the STH or the Regular solly wide brakes work with 997s. I can always swap out the heel pad if neither do.....Best Skier on the Mountain

The brake arms from the old 997s and the current issue bindings are identical. Just remove old unwide arms from 997 brake component and replace with newer wider arms. I like to pound out the drift pin in the stomp pad as opposed prying out the two spiraled rivets on the bottom spring plate when doing the whole swap thing.

Paging 916 experts... I have a bit of a problem with some 916s I picked up from my old roommate, which were formally owned by another friend in town, so they're well used but these clamps are built to last, right?
Anyway this large photo will be easier to understand than explaining it in words. The part circled in red is a little floating piece of metal (flat on one side, curved on the other, like a half cylinder) that slots into a swing arm, and the end of the spring housing rests against it. The shot on the right shows it in its normal position, and the shot on the left is how it ends up when I test a lateral toe release with my Tecnica touring soles (testing with DIN soles is all good).
The grooves in front of that piece aren't present on the other toe unit, so I guess those have been formed by previous owners skiing them with the piece out of place. When I reset this piece (which is frustratingly fiddly) then test a lateral toe release with my touring soles, the toe rotates a long way (almost to the point of release) but then stops dead, and the toe won't return to centre as well as it should. Upon inspection, the piece is then out of place.
So, anyone ever had issues like this? Is this toepiece toast? I've still not skied them, but am a bit sketched out even to use my DIN soles in them, let alone the touring soles which I would like to do if possible.

The current Sth will be the last of this generation. Change is coming.

^ Let me guess: Driver toe disappearing in favor of horizontal-spring Guardian toe? Salomons will look like Jesters?

I ended up with STH 14 Drivers for teh MFDs on my Cochise.
5 screw, wormscrew heels, Driver toes without the weight of metal or the big guy springs.
Sexy.
Gawd I love this thread..
So what's next Phil? Time to start blowing up pics from alka to see what's on his feet??

I think the cat is out of the bag in other threads. The STH will come with the Guardian heel.
I'm not sure how I like this, mostly because I love the S916s as they are. It could be better, I suppose, but I don't see how. But I understand it from a business standpoint. Fewer part types but higher volumes means less expense.

The times they are a changing. Will it be better? who knows, I am more concerned with the change in the toe. I think the 13 will be better than the 12/14 but will the 16 be better than the old 16? Will this be the New Coke of Salomon like the Axail Pivot was for look to replace the old turntables for Look only to bring back the old Turntables or like Raichle with the Flexon Slalom only to go back to the Flexon?

Anyone have an opinion on 900s at this point in time. I've got a pair of 900s 4-12 DIN that I want to swap onto another pair of skis. Thoughts?
They are in pretty decent shape and I haven't skied them a ton."These are crazy times Mr Hatter, crazy times. Crazy like Buddha! Muwahaha!"
