Cannondale Prophet MX?
What says the collective? Anybody ride on of these suckers? I just found out I may have a line on one - all the bike forums seem to speak highly of them...curious if any maggs have experience with one of these bikes. Looks like something with the weight of a Covert or 575 with the DH/flickability of a Bottle Rocket or dedicated 4X bike... pretty sick

heavy wheels and heavy cranks. and i broke a gobi in 10 days. the back of the seat is only supported by plastic. the rails only go back like 80% of the way. its comfy though.
anyhow, frame looks pretty rad, and wel spec'd though.

I have and love the non MX version, great ride, adjustable, durable, etc.
the non MX are lighter, leftyed, but same frame

Ride it first to be sure you like its feel.
4x bikes can work for trail rigs. One of my friends rides a Blur 4x as his trail bike. I have pedalled his around, it is a lot nicer than a regular Blur or Blur LT if you ask me. 4x geometry is better at speed and on steep descents.

Sounds like the MX isn't much different from the regular prophet aside from having a 12mm thru axle rear (which sounds sweet), and it has ISCG tabs, which is awesome b/c I've already got a DRS for it. Trail bike I can still huck...I likey. Crud, I don't think it's as limited-use a machine as say a Yeti 4X or specific bike like that. Sounds like it's a bit more versatile and capable of trail use.
Gonna go give one a parking lot test today and see what I think. Also digging on the low standover...

Kyle, the dude who "won" the Hell ride last year (forced Weir to cheat to beat him), shuttle driver in Moab, rides one. We've ridden UPS with him and that bike (and Kyle) rips. Wendy rides one too and really likes it (pro-DH girl we know down there, she raced a few Super-D's on hers and did very well). I'm thinking about getting one as a lighter wieght trail bike for me too. I rode his a bike and really liked the feel. He thrashes a bike and his is in great shape so they seem burely enough to last. If you have a deal on one, I don't think you can go wrong.

Thanks Craig. Yeah I know Wendy...cool to hear she's riding Cdale. Their stuff is looking really good these days, Judge, Perp, Prophet...sick.
I went and checked out one this afternoon, it's sick! Bit worried it's gonna be too slack for real XC but I think I can make it work. I can get full leg extension on a medium so it should be good. The frame is way burlier than I expected, really nice looking bike. Not exactly light at around 33-34lbs (guessing), but no heavier than my FXR. Great low standover...I think this is my next rig. Now I gotta choose between the MX1 and MX2. Not so sure about the Pike and Pearl that come on the MX2 but I'd bet they are a good setup. The 36 Float and DHX Air on the 1...yummy. Might be worth it to just go for the high-end version.

Doesn't the MX have the 2 settings like the normal prophet? 69 and 67.5deg?
lighten with tubeless tires, bar, stem, seat, and post. if you upgrade when the parts are still new, should be too bad.

It actually lists different head angles on the shock bolt mount for the MX: 65 and 67.5. I think it's probably just b/c of the longer travel forks spec'd on the MX (160mm for the 36 Float). I tried the regular Prophet in the XC setting (69) and it felt wayyyy steep and twitchy. I'm sure it'd be great in the 67.5 setting tho. Just funny b/c I'm sure most XC folks would think of 69 as way slack, just what you're used to I guess.
P.S. Any thoughts on the RS Pearl/Pike combo? I know scrublover has a Pearl on his Covert, sounds good so far, all the MTBR reviews are glowing. I'm thinking it might be worth saving some coin and going with the MX2...it's still got a great parts spec just want to be sure the suspension bits are good since I've never ridden RockShox stuff...Last edited by Particle; 04-07-2007 at 08:26 PM.

Yep, very cool dude and his dog (Rally) should be on TV. Note: once UPS is open, he will pick you up a the parking lot on Hwy 128 where Porcupine hits the road at the river. This way, you can leave a car there and avoid the road ride into town if it's getting to be the hot part of the year. We really like it because we always have our dog with us and he chills out by the truck while we ride. Kyle takes the back way up the La Sal road and the shuttle takes the same amount of time. I don't think anyone else is willing to do this yet (I hope I'm wrong though).
Particle, Nice. weight? Now that my wife is a born again hippie killing climbs on a SS, I HAVE to get something lighter. Humping an over 40 lb AS-X up behind a 20 lb SS is not fun. Coming down, not an issue but I'm going to blow a lung trying to keep up right now. (not that I can't just lose 25 lbs from my ass...)Last edited by Mr. Altagirl; 04-12-2007 at 07:02 AM.

Thanks! I"m stokered. Good to have finally made a decision on the bike front, and at less cost than I was expecting...always a good thing.
Mr. AG - I've read stats anywhere from 31-35 on the MX, the one I tested felt in that range to me...very close in weight to my FXR. I'll let ya know what it comes to once I get it. On that note I'm wondering if I should just sell the Hussefelt crankset and grab a Shimano LX Hollowtech II to drop some weight right off the bat.

That is THE shuttle. The full meal-Porc deal, and your car waiting for you at the bottom. Sweet. Hoping the issues around that trail get resolved one of these days.

Sooo... any initial impression of the MX (weight???)? I ask as I may have a line on an 06 MX1 in perfect condition (36, DHXair, e13, etc..under $2K price wise). I'm going to go look at it tomorrow night and see if it's light enough for what I'm looking for. I hate to be a copy cat but I'm really jonesing for a lighter bike recently but don't want to shell out $4K for an sweetly built RFX, Nomad or equivalent (I'm starting to build a new bathroom tomorrow as well, funds could get stretched thin).

I'm disappointed in the lack of Cannondale hating going on here.
That should be a sweet do it all bike. I would like to get my Heckler built kind of like that, I just need to get an air shock and a Pike (anyone want to trade for a 6-way/Nixon?).
edit - Mr. AG, you should go for it. It's only fair, considering it looks like your wife got a new bike.Last edited by crashnburn'd; 04-11-2007 at 11:19 AM.

Sorry Craig, I don't have the bike yet. I'm going out of town on Friday and won't be back for almost 2 weeks...so won't be able to give you a report till the end of the month.
That said, you should get it. But one of the big reasons I didn't get the MX1 is b/c the 36 Float doesn't have travel adjust and I do want to climb on this bike. However I think the 06 has a TALAS? In which case you'd be all set.
I also went ahead and ordered an XT crankset which will drop almost a full pound off the stock Truvativ.

Kyle is the man, but in a pinch use Brian with Porcupine shuttle out of Poison Spider. Former P-Dog co-worker, good dude.
Thanks Craig and Josh.Last edited by flowtron; 04-12-2007 at 07:26 AM.
