In search of a commuter
I'm considering picking up a commuter bike for my SO and need a few suggestions.
Ideally a cromoly frame would be nice since the roads in PG are at best beat to shit and an aluminum frame ridged bike would probably have some vibration issues. More of a Mountain bike gearing would be good and larger tires. Keeping the price down is also kind of important.
I've been leaning towards a Kona Smoke mainly because the price is decent at about $400 (can) and I've always kinda liked kona bikes the Dew might be an option even though it's aluminum. The Norco options... meh. Specialized I'm not to sure? Gary fisher?
Ideally Soma, Vicious cycles, Salsa etc. would be great if any maggots are unloading one...

Check out Bianchi and the new Swobo bikes. Sky Yaeger is the queen of sick functional bikes. Bianchi has several steel models as well as the Swobo's which I believe are all steel. Otherwise piece together an old steel cross/touring/mtn frame.
