    Mastodon. Any opnions..........

Saw Mastodon on a Conan rerun last night.

I am a luddite so I still buy CDs. Therefore just checking for some feedback before I shell out the dough.

i need to find a download of the conan performance!

the best band on the metal scene in years IMHO. they are extremely heavy and technical, so for some it may not be love at first listen. i find that the more you listen, the more incredible it becomes. the drummer is ab-so-fucking-lutely amazing.

remission, leviathon, and blood mountain are all excellent. i tend to think that they got slightly better with each new CD.

I personally love them but I know other metal types who are put off but their odd time signatures and supposed lack of coherent song structure. Those are actually pluses as far as I am concerned but if you are looking for straight ahead verse chorus verse chorus solo you could find yourself lost and angry. If you do buy a disc my personal pick is Leviathan.

go listen to some sound clips at Allmusic.com

Opening for Tool is not a good enough reason for you..?

So I went and picked up 'Blood Mountain' and me likey.......especially the lyrics.....

I like heavy music, but I find a lot of heavier acts just get caught up in the whole "I have to play louder and faster than anyone else" mentality, which just ends up making metal repetitive and boring. Experimenting with heavier sounds and structure is much more interesting to me.

Meshuggah is another band that has a lot of crazy off-beat stuff. Sometimes I think my heart starts to beat irregularly when I listen to them.

My opinion is that they do not suck at all. I really like Leviathan would really be worth your money. Blood Mountain is worth as well and I'm glad you like it. I want to check them out this summer in the Atl
