Ski Jeopardy
so this is an inverse question of what most people ask, kinda in a jeopardy type format. I know *exactly* what I want, ie I have the answer, I just dont think anyone makes it yet. So which ski out there is the closest to what I want? Alex?
*185-190cm, although Id prefer for it to be on the short end of my scale
*Long'ish rockered shovel, think 193 EHP or sanouk and not spat or praxis
*Flat to traditional camber underfoot
*Flat tail with at most a small kick ala current bros or mantras etc
*110-115mm waist
*Heavily tapered tail, no more than 10mm larger than the waist
*Medium-Soft flex, 3-6'ish on marsh's scale
*No more than 4.5lbs each
*Preferably less than 900-1000$ cause I have issues with core shotting something that expensive.
seems my choices are limited
possibilities Ive been thinking about
*183 axiom, even though I just sold a pair and theyre heavy I did love them despite what Highway Sanders will tell you.
*193 sanouk, even though its a bit longer than I want, swallowtail, and too soft
*190 lotus 120, even though its a tad wide, tail is too large and waaay upturned, and its kidna spendy
*190 06/07 BigDaddy, although its pretty damn wide and also heavy. Camber profile is not what I want unless I do some bendy (unwanted)
*182 BD Zealot, although its sounds like its uber stiff and maybe not the camber or sidecut profile im looking for
*183-190 Katana, might be the ticket although possibly heavy and too much tail width
I bring up this question because the recent thought of late has been to have a 3 ski quvier despite how boring that might be. Ive gone through *a lot* of skis in the past couple years, and really this is all I feel I need and want. I could go on any trip and be covered with 2 or 3 sticks and one pair of boots.
For reference, here are the 3 skis which Ill build this quiver
*185ish, 85-90mm lightweight touring ski with dynafits. currently its a 183 super stiff carbon surf that skis quite well on anything but the hardest slickest bulletproof. The 183 actually measures out to 187 also. Either way, happy enough on them for now, espc considering the price I got them at.
*185ish, 95-100mm burly charging resort type ski with naxos. currently its a 186LP that i absolutely love. People say it often I suppose, but I will never get rid of these skis.
*185ish, 110-115mm lightweight, tour capable, pow slaying machine mounted with dynafits. what im looking for
Is there anything else Im missing I should consider? something from k2 or solly? custom options? The "Penis Mightier" I suppose is a valid answer

yea i know what you mean
i just have this thing that if im going to spend 800+ on a pair of skis, it had better be *exactly* what I want. If someone made them I dont think Id have a problem with spending that coin, especially cause Id sell off the rest of my quiver.

Not sure if it'll be exactly what you're looking for, but I heard 4frnt is coming out with a shorter EHP next season. I don't know how it'll fit into your length, weight, or stiffness schemes though.

The Anti Piste (from the Coomba mold but flat camber and slightly rockered tip) from K2 Telemark sort of sounds like what you're after, except it's just over 100 in the waist.
Putting the "core" in corporate, one turn at a time.

Don't 193 EHP's satisfy most of your requirements? The new 186 EHP's have running length of like 116 cm listed, but wouldn't the ramped tail of the 193's make them ski closer to the length you want?
Also how about fat bro's?Last edited by Singel; 03-25-2007 at 03:21 PM.

Capital Thrashers, you can choose your stiffness, choose what tail profile you want...

Next year's x-wing s-lab fits the bill of all requirements except for length and possibly weight.

yea i was initially excited on the 186s' annoucement, but then i saw they changed the geometry, shortened the running length a ton and not proportionally, and the 193 is pretty darn heavy.
as far as the w105 goes, Im not sure thats really what I want as it has a fairly traditional shape and camber, albiet flat underfoot. Id rather just go dp120.
ill have to keep my eye out for the solly lab ski. thanks
ive considered capital, but they dont really have the shape I want and not willing to deal with all the potential hassels ive read about
fat bros are an option for sure although its a traditional shape and either a tad too short or a tad too long at 179 and 192.
thanks for the input everyone

i'd give a vote for the 186 ehp, fairly similar to this years but with some more tail taper, might be a little stiffer than what u are looking for
