    What do you think?

I moved to Utah last August, and am realizing I need something to hold me over when there isn't any snow. I have been looking at Iron Horse bikes mainly, because of the great prices and good reviews. I have been looking at three bikes in the Iron Horse line up. The Sachem 4.0, 7 point 3, and the 6 point 4. The 6 point 4 is probably going to cost more then I want to spend. The 7 point 3 seems like it might be a bit too heavy on the uphill. I want to spend somewhere around 1100.00, less if I can get a deal for a quality bike. Right now rscycle.com has the Sachem for 899.00 and the 7 point 3 for 1099.00. The thing I am worried about is buying a bike and then improving enough that I outgrow it. I know I can always upgrade components, but what are the limiting factors of the Sachem frame? Any help would be appreciated.

Of thsoe three option it's the 6point hands down.

It's going to be a versitle bike that can do anything. It sounds like you are not sure what you'll be riding so this bike will allow you to climb stuff and still rock the downhills. 6 and 6 is more than enough to ride anything. It's a solid frame with a great design. As things break then replace it. Sure the shocks might not have all the bells and whistles of adjustment but you won't notice one you get it set up. Work with a shop to tweak the initial set up then just ride the crap out of it.

the 6point is more than double your price range. it would help if you told us what type of riding you want to do that but I would recommend checking out a IH MK3 from last year. I have one and have been really happy with it.

RS only has the 15" size left. I know someone who might have a new 19" for sale for that same price, PM me if interested.

I guess I would be mostly trail riding, and need something that could handle the trails around SLC. I need something that is easy to ride uphill, but can take some abuse on the downhill. I am 5' 11" 200lbs. I guess I should probably take the 6 point off the list since in reality I am not going to find a used one for even 1400.00 since they are new this year. I can see myself being fairly aggressive, but not crazy. What other options do I have in my price range? Thanks.

Start browsing eBay if you are limited to around $1200.

Here's something I just saw in that range:

What about the MarkIII Sport. Should be able to find one in the $1500 range. 5" travel instead of six, but you get the DW link instead of the single-pivot on the sachem.

Also, think about a demo bike from Poison Spider (where I got my bike). From their website:

Used Bikes For Sale We currently have some 2006
models up for sale from Gary Fisher and Rocky Mtn.
ranging from $1000-1500 depending on the model.
We also have some high end demos from Titus and
    Intense.
    E-mail bikes@poisonspiderbicycles.com for details.
Please let us know your height.
