i'm thinking these are the type he is after.

don't you have to pre-load the heel piece before stepping in? something like that anyway.

not safer easier. Imagine flying thru the air with the greatest of ease trying to push down on the heel enough to get the *$#* ski off before flying into ::thud::

There might be pair still attached to a pair of my dad's long since retired skis, I won't be able to check until Thursday. But if they're the right ones, they're yours.

(those skis definitely had Tyrolias, and were from the late 80s/early 90s, but I don't remember pulling up to release :shrug

I have a sick pair of Neon Green Blizzard Thermo V20's with Tyrolia 490 d's. You are welcome to them. You might have to wrestle a few Ukranian Mobsters for them.

    Paging Bozeman mags:

Kevin at PhD is a Tyrolia nut (used to be anyway). I wonder if he's got any laying around. I'd check, but I'm not there!

JT Holmes and I need your help asap! We leave for Europe on the 14th of March for a film shoot. This is in only 8 days. We are doing some ski base jumps for a french film. The types of jumps we are doing require us to release our skis before deploying our parachutes. The only way to safely do this is by using those old Tyrolia bindings that were popular in the 80s. The kind that have the upward releasing heel. We both just recently finished filming some similar jumps for a separate Matchstick project. On that shoot we used up all our tyrolias. These bindings were very popular in the 80s and can be found on many old skis. We don't care how old or crappy they are or what the din is. We only need them for a few hundred feet of skiing. They are generally easy to find at thrift stores and in friends garages. The problem for us is we don't have any time left to gather as many as we need. If any of you out there has a pair (or 10!) or knows anyone who might have any we would very much appreciate you sending them to us. We know this would be kind of a pain in the ass for you to do on such short notice but we will gladly make it up to you some how. Please PM either JT or myself if you have any leads for us. We are totally scrambling at the last minute here. Thanks a lot!

    Dear Shane:

Here is a pic of my skis from the Aspen days. Those bindings are Tyro 490RD. Being of blood that still singsstand up, hook up, shuffle to the door. Jump right out and shout , when I go for a run. The bindings are yours. Where do I ship?

Now don't think I'm crazy for giving them up. They deserve a big grin. Poor guys only got skied on 3 days. I'm sure they are trying to figure some way to unscrew themselves to go have fun with you as I type.

those bindings are awesome! I have many fond memories. They used to be popular when I was in high school & I had many friends using them. They're great because you can sneak up behind someone in the liftline and pop the lever on the binding without them knowing.

They'd then get picked up by the chairlift and carried away while their now-disengaged ski remained behind on the ground.

Extra points went to those who were able to perform the same sneaky maneuver on their friends at the top of the run.

So sorry, I have none to spare.

Couldn't you just use some rental bindings set to DIN three? One good shake and they're gone.

Thanks a lot everyone for suck quick responses. We have some good leads form several of you. Just need to see now if any work out. The pictures some of you posted are the correct kind. There are many other model numbers and color ways which also will work. We still need lots more! Even if we can't get them by next tuesday. We'll use em next year.
On another note, concerning ski littering:
In the past we have been using sticks instead of poles when we knew we might not not be able to retreive them. The ski movie viewer never notices the difference on those barbie shots. We plan on doing our best to retreive the skis we pull off after the shoot is finished. Many times the skis and bindings are still in decent shape. A friend of mine once had to release the skis on a skydive in the summer. The skis fell several thousand feet into the dirt. They were perfectly fine. As you know the Tyrolias we use are in short supply so we have even more incentive to retreive them than the issue of littering.
    Oh and by the way,
Shamless sponsor plug born from guilt over this thread:
The new Marker Duke is the only binding I'll ever ski from now on for alpine or touring. Rock solid torsion, touring option, din to 16, no upward frontal release. The most solid binding I've ever stepped into.
