joshbu -> Cordova AK
So this may be my last post for a while. (Yeah, I can hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth in the streets already.)
I'm off on Monday to Cordova, Alaska. I'm not sure if I'm going to have internet access while I'm up there. If so, I'll check in, if not, I want everyone to have a killer time at the summit. I want TRs! Pictures! Video! I doubt Tahoe has any idea what's in store for it.
For the the PacNW'ers, have fun at our mini. I hope you all get superduper deep snow. We could use it.
For everyone else, try not to, well, you guys probably wouldn't listen to me anyways.
Ciao
Joshbu

Enjoy it and make sure to get plenty of pictures. I want to see some evidence of using the Tabla Rasa's for some Rockstar stuff.

802.11 at PNH
Point's North has 802.11 in the main common room now, so I'm back in the posting business.
Today is the second down day in a row for me, (more for some of the other folks here.) Looks like we're going to bootpack out part of the ridge above the Mt. Eyak lift.
Go away rain!

We picked up 2 plus feet in the last 2 days too. We just can't get out there. As soon as it clears up here it's going to go off.

No problemo WC.
Eyak was hairy. About 6-10" of slop on a hard-as-steel rain crust. That made for a nice bed layer for your fav and mine... slab avalanches! We skiied basically the ridge line down. No steeps for us. There look like some nice features up there, but the guides were saying Eyak's snowpack is way more unstable than up in the mountians. Hot tip: if you're going heli skiing, bring your touring gear as well. I used mine, and I'm glad I had it.
Not sure yet about today. Maybe flying for the first time tomorrow.

So we got two runs in before the snow moved in. The first, off of a ridge called "Whatchamacallit" was just killer. You took about 3 turns to a spine that delimited 2 couloirs. The first 2 dudes down took the left. I got the option to take the right, and it was fucking awesome. I haven't skiied steeps in a while, so I kept the throttle down, mostly. Even then it yielded about 20 turns of deep steepness. Hero, ego, pow.
The second run the light was going flat and the weather was moving in, but I still had a killer time. I got clipped by a pretty good sluff becuase I couldn't tell what was moving and what wasn't.
The heli lift out of there was a little sketch, but PNH's pilots are solid as a rock. No problem.

Gone Stupid in AK
Today made it all worthwhile. It went blue at about noon. The storm that drove us off the mountain yesterday deposited about 20+ on the Chugach. (That's no typo. 20+ inches.) It was very, very light, on top of however many feet we already had. It was like for a day the Chugach decided to show Alta the meaning of a pow day. The skiers on the Explosivs decided quickly they weren't on enough ski. The snowboarders were choaking on pow from their face shots. 5 huge runs. I'm pretty much speechless. Anything else I could say wouldn't do it justice.
Dr C: The Tabla's rule. There's a dude here who's going to go home and trade in is M103s for TRs. Another guy is waffling, but will probably pick up a pair. More detail to go in Tech Talk.

No TR or Vid or even pics can detail AK. No other place I have been can touch it.
