Thread: Gun vs. Falcon 10

Would like to pull the trigger soon but cant quite decide. Are there any differences other than flex? Like forward lean or fit.
Im 5 11 and 170 pounds.
Riding Gotamas with freerides.
No park skiing.
I dont want to go to soft, but want to to be bossed around either. Can anyone comment if the Falcon 10 is to stiff? That is my first choice.

Only other difference than flex is that the gun has a cushion rubber foot bed. I have the falcon 10's, they're not that stiff. They have a much more fluid flex than the x-waves, so the stiffer boot feels a bit more forgiving. Sweet boot, super light.

fluffs speaks the truth...additionally if you get the falcons and you find them too stiff, just pull out the locks on the back of the boot for a more 90ish flex.

Darkside, you're Ben? We met in October, oddly enough the falcon didn't fit me at all when I tried it on in your Truckee shop. I think all you had around was a 28.5, and I'm wearing a 27.5 now. I think what happened is that my MPs were too far back in the 28.5, but in the 27.5 they found the pocket.

I don't work in the Truckee store at all...you're thinking of a different ben...glad you got your boots worked out though.

Thanks. I have been to that Porters when I lived in South Lake 04/05. Good shop and crew. Thats what I wanted to hear, that they are sweet and not overly stiff for a normal dude.
Now does anyone know where I can find the Falcon 10 size 26.5 in the crystal color. Im such a jong I can't find them on the internet to buy anywhere.

I have the Falcon 10s and love 'em, with one BIG exception. After skiing only an hour or so, snow begins to accumulate between the inner and outer boots. I've emailed Salomon about this problem and am awaiting their response.

I have the exact same problem, cold toes. My boots are wet inside the shell constantly.

I have never heard of this, although I have never had clear boots so I could have had this happen and not known it. Seems wierd. Anyone else?

Same problem here too - don't have enough days on 'em yet (5) though to have really bothered me. Packing out the liner is the bigger problem right now and deciding what I want to do w/ my cork insoles that take up too much room in the boot

i have the gun boots, haven't had a problem with water in the boot yet... these boots are great for performance and fit like a glove, but they make my toes cold... actually its kind of a good thing because my toes get numb then my ingrowns dont hurt anymore haha!

Anyone else with water in the boot? I wonder what Salomon will respond with about this, or maybe they knew and thats why they gave it the water proof liner.

I took some photos of the boots and learned there is a gap in the shell where it overlaps itself between the bottom two buckles. I'm pretty sure that's where the snow is getting in. Anyway, if you want to be included on the emails, drop me a line at:

You know, I always assumed that the moisture in the shell of my Falcons was from sweat. It never occured to me that snow might be getting in there.

I also have the snow issue. I love the boots, but after a full day of skiing, they are filled with snow. I am interested in hearing Salomon's response.

Can someone elborate a bit more as to wheer it's coming from? Is this an old duct-tape on the toes/silicone fix, or something else? Mine are in the mail so a little curious now....

Is it at the toe dam, or at the top of the instep?

I was just going to post about this. Love my Falcon 10's, but my toes have never been so cold.

Just looked down at my boots and sure enough there is water on the inside. I was only out for a couple of runs too. Mine have a rubber strip between the two layers on the top of the foot, but obviously that isn't doing the trick.

I would love to hear what Salomon has to say.

Well, my toes is froze. In addition, I've had a rough time with my feet. With a little tweaking, I've gotten the shell and the liner dialed (not to mention 10 hours a day for 40 days). I had swapped out a custom footbed that was a bit narrow for my foot (hung off the side) for some superfeet customs. They felt great for a few days, but I feel like I have bone bruises on my 4th and 5th met-heads, it kills. Right now I'm blaming it on the bad insoles I spent 30 days on, and hoping a few days off will fix the problem.

Also, does the falcon have some sort of changable sole on them? It looks a bit like it in the pictures. I'm asking, because this i why i need to change my current boots - they simply wont fit well in my salomon bindings because they are more round than flat from wear underneath.

By the way, i was wondering if it maybe is possible to kind of grind the sole of the boots flat again in some machine and thus make them perform well again?... Any comments?

the first production pairs came without any waterproffing. newer ones have a strip in them to help with that. Also ALL boot leak, but as the salomon shells are see thru you can see the snow so it is worse. I have both Xwaves and falcons (1st vintage without the tape) and they are about the same for snow as eachother

nope, flat, not changeable. cat tracks or don't walk so much in them

yup, the plates are used in for canting (side to side) and lifts (up and down) a high end boot shop should be able too plate down your boot and add the plates to it. The tools are not cheap to do this right, so expect to pay $200 for work, and lifters.

I believe the gun has a seem (sp?) sealed liner. Problem solved.
No they are not the same fit as the old promodel. It's a totally new last.

I have last years guns and my get a lot of moisture in them. I would think that even though the liners are water proof it would still make your toes cold....maybe this would explain my toes being cold in these boots. Also, if I am not mistaken...the Guns and Falcons are a narrower last than the X-Waves and are therefore not the correct replacement for someone with a foot that fits in the x-waves, but rather an alternative to a boot like a Lange.

This winter I will be duct taping my boots to see if that helps.

I have last years Guns. Did not have problems with water getting in though. Loved the boot and flex, but I'm thinking about down sizing a half boot. What would be an appropriate price for a Gun with 15-20 days on it? Wondering if it is worth selling at too big a loss.

half sizes don't exist, the liners pack out to what ever shell they are in (socks fit in any shoes) so if you are in a 26.0 or 26.5 that is the same shell and you need either a 25.0 or 25.5.

price: 50% of MSRP and a bit more for used. you might be able to get a bit more for that boot as it is a current boot still, and popular too.
