Fuck... Ass! Bending project gone wrong. Need 2 Sally wide brake arms. WTB/WTT/Free?
Mounted my Praxis tonight and they came out titties
Bent the first two brake arms to fit just fine. The next one -- snap! FUCK!!! Well, I might as well finish bending the last one -- snap! Fuck!!! I've bent probably around ten pairs of Sally brakes now, and these are the first two to break, wtf?
So, got an extra pair of wide brake arms you want to sell/trade to me? I need the wide ones, 'cause the skis are something like 135 underfoot, so the regular ones aren't going to be long enough.
I've got a Kirkwood beanie or a set of pretty beat Sally 912 demo binders with no demo plates (long story) to trade. Also, some stickers - Kirkwood, Alpine Meadows, Squaw.
Or, I'll let you borrow my Praxis for a few runs if you are at Kirkwood tomorrow and have some wide brakes with you that would fit. I gotta take a run on them first, though
.
Bay Area/Kirkwood hook up would be great tomorrow, but we can work shipping out if needed.“Don’t want to sound like a dick or nothing but it says on your chart you’re fucked up. You talk like a fag, and your shit’s all retarded.”

Sure, why not. PM me your addy and I'll get them out in the mail in the next couple of days.
Kind of curious, what's the project, if you don't mind sharing?“Don’t want to sound like a dick or nothing but it says on your chart you’re fucked up. You talk like a fag, and your shit’s all retarded.”

My project is to try to TIG weld horizontal extensions on the brake arms to make them wider. It seems like it is a better option than the bending technique that ends up shortening, or in some cases, breaking them. The other idea is the build a Jig and make wider brakes using it. I'm going to experiment with the welding first. I need to get an idea of the metal's characteristics, and what metal will best fuse to it. If it works out, I'll give you them back. I'll probably start a formal thread requesting brake arms once I have access to the welding equipment as soon as school resumes.

Somebody, anybody?
P.S. Saw some Comies at Bub's yesterday, I assume the were 666's, and they looked sick! The brakes on 'em looked like they weren't even bent, as in, 130+ stock Sally brakes. Are those out there? If so, I'd just buy a pair if I can find 'em.“Don’t want to sound like a dick or nothing but it says on your chart you’re fucked up. You talk like a fag, and your shit’s all retarded.”

ugh. metalurgy on brake arms? haha
from someone who has done a significant amount of steel, aluminum, ti, and stainless tig welding, I can say with a very high level of confidence that it wont really matter too much what type of steel you try to weld to the brake arms.
anything from 1020, to 4130-4140, 4340, or even 304 it wont much matter
just make sure everything is decently clean. wirebrush the shit and acetone it off. If the weld starts to spatter and leave nasty voids, switch to a stainless rod and you'll be fine.
pm me if you want to know more.
sorry Im no help to your search nikita.

The word "asymmetric" in the description makes me wonder if these still won't work but check these out... the B130s

Maybe somebody can chime in as to if the asmmetric B130s will work. Says they will fit up to 135mm

Hmmm... $50? Ouch, but thanks for the lead anyways.
No worries, P, I'll find something eventually or just ski without it, use a leash or something or crank 'em all the way up, so they don't come off.“Don’t want to sound like a dick or nothing but it says on your chart you’re fucked up. You talk like a fag, and your shit’s all retarded.”

Those were Basom's Comis, and he happened to have brakes that fit without bending, wierd huh? Those were last years graphics on those Comis.

Yeah, I noticed that the graphics were different from the pics I saw somewhere else, can't remember if it was on the website or the pics you posted around here somewhere. I'm guessing those brakes are the B130s?
