    Prior Skis?

Has anybody here ridden any of the Prior models (original or Doughboy)?

I know Prior has a solid rep as a snowboard company and the customer service dept. regarding their skis is great (i.e. they answer your emails with questions about their product damn quick), plus they do extensive demo road trips across the States and Canada.

But does anybody own a pair or has anybody demoed a pair?

Have demo'd both the Original and Doughboy.

Do a search there are review threads on here.

Both great fun skis. I'd own a pair of each if money was no object. But they are pricey for your average dirtbag skier.

Funken took his new doughboys on his trip to the PNW... I am sure they got some use. I will tell him to take a look in here when he gets back to this end of things.

I have skied the 188 original. I liked them a lot. I'd buy them if they weren't so expensive.

Yup I skied the Doughboys for a day in epically deep pow at Stevens. I have them mounted with Naxo nx01 bindings at the moment. They float extremely well and seem to be very quick turning in the deep stuff. I am not sure how stable they are as I didn't ski too much chopped up now. On my last run I did ski on a groomer and they didn't seem to have great edge grip. It may have been that the trail was icy, but it was kind of dark and it was hard to tell. I will have to check this out further. They are a fairly light ski for how big they are and I think they will make an excellent pow touring ski. They actually do remind me quite a bit of the Spatula as far as performance in deep snow. If this is how they continue to ski it will be awesome to have a touring ski that skis like the Spats; although, I'm sure they won't be as good as the Spats in suncrust.

I rode a 181ish original for a day. They felt very similar to my 182 scratch bc. I would not recomend them for someone who charges hard, but they are a pretty fun ski to piss around the park on.

I noticed too that the edge grip was quite terrible.

Just like on a snowboard. I wonder if that's the feel they were going for.

If those were demo's the were the regular flex that is rather on the softish side (not a noodle thou).

If you werer to order a pair and wanted to "charge" they will makes them as freaky deaky stiff as you want. Also they will do almost totally custom sticks, flat tail special insert, flex patterns.

I have a feeling that a shop tune (not Prior factory) will enhance the edge grip. Time will tell...

I demoed some 188 stiff originals and found the edge hold miles better than the crappy B4s i was on before

Glad to hear you are enjoying the Doughboy's Funken! These were my big day sticks last year and I would agree with Funken's review...they are a stellar soft snow ski. My only challenge with the ski was the tip was a bit soft for me (I weigh 200lbs) so it did not hold particularly well on the hard stuff and it does get deflected a bit in heavy chopped up snow. However, as far as float and fun in the soft stuff they are top shelf.
