Waxing Cold Skis
Does this do damage to skis?
I just took a hot iron to my ladys explosivs and the ski bent upwards in the tips and tails. I immediately laid them flat on the ground and they bent back. Whew, that was freaky.
Is that b/c of all the metal in the ski?
Should you warm up your skis at room temp b4 waxing them?

Not sure about your situation, but I find the wax isn't as cohesive to the ski when they are cold. I get better results when waxing at room temperature.

The metal is more prone to react, as you are shocking it. It doesn't do a ton of good for the base as it doesn't absorb as well either.
Room temp is a good idea.
Skiing, where my mind is even if my body isn't.

Yes skis will bend when you wax them. It's perfectly normal, so long as you're not getting them TOO hot, as in leaving the iron in one spot for an extended time.
Yes you should warm the ski up to room temp before waxing.

it's probably not the best idea use an iron on cold skis... different temperature expansion coefficients for different materials... ski as a giant bimetallic strip like from your old thermostat... yes... let them warm

huh, so when I was waxing my skis after they had been sitting in the garage at -20F, that wasn't good? I thought that when the wax scrapings turned to powder I was doing well.

When I was 9 and waxing my race skis I decided to do some p-texing. I had been told to use the iron to heat up the area which would be repaired to make the p-tex bond better. Needless to say, I heated the skis too much and the bases delaminated from the ski and I got these funky bubbles under the bases. Skis were fucked (thinking about it, those were the first skis I ever broke
). Mum went MENTAL...
