    Political Signs

Anyone else as irritated as myself at the number of roadside signs? It seems political campaigns are thought to be won by the number of signs one can post. There were signs on the lawn of my chidren's elementary school today, I'm thinking that goes a bit far.

I hope these politicians are as dilligent about removing the signs after the elections are over, but I doubt it.

I'm with you on that! I am SOOOOO ready for tomorrow to be OVER.
I design print ads. I have been up to my neck in orders from politicians and they are all whiney little douche nozzles. Do they not realize that I am a voter too? And if they are dickwads to me, I MIGHT NOT VOTE FOR THEM?

    The commercials are the worst.

If I have to hear "Tammy Duckworth supports baby killing" once more, I am going postal.

    I love the roadside signs.

Back when I lived in more rural places, I used to borrow a few of them, set them out many hundred yards, and have fun with my rifle.

Nothing like free targets that require 0 work.
Its also very gratifying to return them to where I borrowed them from.

Agreed, in SLC there are 20 signs posted for the same person in a 5 sq-ft area. It is really ridiculous, I also see young children dancing around on sidewalks, screaming at motorists with big signs for a candiate in their hands. What is this world coming to, that they have to recruit children to do their bidding?

Heh. When I lived in Rochester, some drunk old dude collected a couple hundred and torched them. Some cock sucking candidate complained and had him arrested - all of the local DJ's made sure everyone knew who did that, and collected more than enough money to have the old dude post bail and get acquited

Here in VT Rich Tarrant was running negative ads ("what's happening to Bernie?" all over the place for a while but I guess he stopped when people were sorta calling him out on it and he realized it was counter-productive.

I wish all I had to deal with was political signs and commercials.

The people running for office in my district have decided that canned political messages over the phone are the way to go. For the last two weeks I have been getting around five of these messages a day. Only a moron would think this is going to do anything but annoy me. The problem is all the major candidates are doing this so it's not like I can punish someone by voting for someone who would defeat them. This election year has just made me even more depressed about the political leadership in this country.

For some reason this year seams the worst I can recall, that the comercials are so negative, seems like all they are, are attacks against the other side...

And my union keeps telling me how I should vote. We need to be united, one voice, blah, blah. it's ridiculous.

Please. Us DC maggots get bombarded w/ DC, Maryland, and Virginia ads on TV and radio. You think one state is bad, try 3! *

    * Yes, I know, technically DC is not a state, but they still have to elect a mayor, council, etc.

Every election cycle I swear I'm gonna make a list of all the candidates who don't clean up their signs within a couple days of the election and make sure I never vote for them in the future. This time I'm really going to do it. I swear.

You guys do realize that the lawn signs aren't actually put up by the candidate, right? People who want them go down to campaign headquarters or wherever, get one (or 10) and put them up. Most people running for office have no idea where they are in the end (Ashdown in Utah has a google maps thing linked to a lot of them, but that's based on voluntary submission of where you put your sign, so it's hardly a comprehensive database).

I personally don't find them annoying at all... why do you care if someone puts up a sign supporting a candidate on their property? I mean, is it any more annoying than a garden gnome or flamingo?

Putting them on public property seems like a no-no (elementary school?), but other than that... meh. Deal with it.

Oh, and if you were going out to do something like a honk-and-wave, would you leave your kids at home or bring them along if they wanted to come? Better than sitting around inside, I say.

Not a chance. There are still remnants of the signs from two years ago laying in the woods where they blew to after that election. I'd love to be able to convince the authorities that the politicians should pay littering fines for each sign still out more than a week after the elections are over.

If you want to put signs in your yard, knock yourself out. But around here there are literally thousands of them in traffic circles, along the edge of parkland, in questionable areas like in front of a shopping center, etc., and those are the ones that are the problem.

One of the candidates here has guy dressed up as a polar bear or some white animal(maybe an arctic fox?) holding signs on the side of the road. And from his tv ads I don't think the candidate has mentioned the enviroment as an issue once. Go figure.

Absolutely - Is there any research to suggest these achieve anything?

If no one put them up then no one would loose out and we wouldn't have the clutter and litter to deal with.

I have to clear two or three of them from my property every week at the moment. If only I could actually see the asshole putting them there

Don't even get me started about the pre-recorded voicemail messages. Only one of us can vote would it be twice as bad if there were two of us?

Same here. I've never gotten so many calls leading up to an election.

On the other hand I feel very special with all these famous people calling my house:

    Rudy Guiliani for Sue Kelly
    Hillary for ????
    Robert Deniro for Hillary
    Bill Clinton for ????

Plus I got a Saturday visit from one State Senator's flackies.

Enough already! Do people really change their mind based on a recorded phone message for a celebrity?
