How many times can you mount a ski?

Sorry I know that this might be a Jong question, but I will ask any way. How many times can you re-mount a ski. Looking at used skis I am a little skeptical about purchasing a ski that has been mounted twice before. Is that something that I should worry about? Is it like baseball where you only have three times to mount a binding and then the skis is done with?

Depending on hole pattern and size, 3 would be the most. I wouldn't trust it myslef but know others who would. At the old shop I worked at, we refused to mount after 3.

3, more if the 4th holes are VERY far for other holes (like derby flex plates)

Why not say it again. Three. Extreme cases 4.

Thanks guys. That is what I thought, three times and then the ski is out. Does a third mount change the structure/ridgity of the ski since you have drilled into the core so many times? Or is that something that I really shouldn't worry about.

I dunno. Pretty sure both Lou Dawson and Mitch Weber are on record as having mounted old skis many times and not busted them. If its some flimsy rando race ski then yeah, its not going to hold up so well, if its some wood/metal fat heavy thing and you fill the old holes with epoxy then drill away

The question that I have is, don't you just fill in the old holes with epoxy to keep water from getting to the core and ruining the ski? Or does the epoxy actually help at some strength to the ski? Just seems that after drilling into the core of the ski, you are still going to have weak spots in the ski, even if you try to fill them up? Would someone more knowledgeable add their 2 cents.

    plastic plugs to waterproof it.

I dont think epoxy does much positive or negative to cores (wood or foam)

Yes, mounting skis is EXACTLY like baseball. Just don't get any pine tar on your bases.

Are the plastic plugs something that I can pick up at a Home Depot and do myself? Or should I just let the shop do the whole trick.

Wood core, or foam? More importantly, is there any metal in there? Same kinds of bindings for each mount, or different? Hole pattern, size of person skiing them, etc.

I wouldn't do any more than 3, possibly 4 under very rare circumstances, but then I know I'd always be wondering about it.

I also think some skis shouldn't be mounted more than twice.

I'm guessing he is reffering to the pilot system. You still have to tap the threads though.
