The Summit Aspen Lodging/Roll Call Thread
I called the group guy today (Aspen Chamber of Commerce central reservations group-deal guy Mark Elias), saying we needed 25-35 rooms, not necessarily in the same complex, for under $100/person/night, for Saturday Mar 24 check-in and Wed Mar 28 check-out somewhere near Highlands or Snowmass. He asked me about flexibility, and I said some members might be coming in Sunday. Also said that price is the governing factor. If $100/night is too high a number, even as a maximum, I can modify that number and put in for a new group of proposals.
Proposals should be coming in within the next few days. I will post as information becomes necessary.
If for some reason, 30 rooms isn't enough (I told the guy 50 people were coming, as less than that many voted, and he said 30 rooms seemed about right), let me know, and I'll modify that number and put in for a new group of proposals for that as well. Also, if there's some double-super-secret number I should call to automatically get a better deal, that would be useful and appreciated information as well.
The guy requested a list of everyone who is confirmed coming (the earlier you guys can confirm, I think the better deal we can get), so I'd like to start compiling that list after we get some options for lodging figured out. So please post here if you are confirmed to come but still need lodging for the Aspen portion of the trip.Last edited by Deep Days; 10-05-2006 at 02:28 PM.

Dude, you don't want to stay in Snowmass or Highlands! They are both dead. Stay in town and take the free bus. I would also try the St. Moritz.

Deep Days, I forgot to mention that I have some ideas/thoughts/leads for you on this front, and potentially a really good lead on Aspen tickets that would get us to around $41 per day per person if we had the numbers. Sorry - I would have mentioned earlier, but I'm totally up to my ears in work right now, and will be through the weekend.
I'll hit you up early next week and we can chat...
Point being (for everyone, I mean), I think we need to publish loudly that costs can be brought down if people show up, and if people show up, the costs go down. So, all those people worried about $80 tickets and $100 per person rooms shouldn't worry, and should start looking at really coming!Thrutchworthy Production Services

I thought anyone could get a 4-pack...??? Shredhead: I emphasized that the money is the governing factor. My vote would be to stay where it's cheapest in order to accomodate the most people. I could also ask for 2 group bookings (if we have the numbers for that): one for the poor college kids and tight wads, and one for the vacationing working stiffs who can afford to live it up a little.
Let's just see what the numbers look like in the next couple days.
Yoss: INCOOOMING! (PM that is)."I said flotation is groovy"

Anyone in town and able to get to whatever single location they're selling them at on a few select fall weekends, yeah. It's a picture pass, and has to be bought in person when they sell them at various malls sometime in the next couple months.

Ahhh, I see. Ok, well I'll call the ticket office to negotiate if you think that would help.
Edit: also, I'm pretty sure Aspen passes are available now thru whenever in the Boulder Freeride office on campus for all you Boulderites. PM me if you need more specific info on the location.
This just in: email from one of the hotels. I don't know anything about the aspen area, so guidance from a local as to the "good"ness of this location would be appreciated:

Both the Sky and the Mountain Chalet are good. I think you will find that town will also be cheapest. There are a lot of older lodges that are inexpensive, but still fairly nice. Part of the attraction of Aspen is being able to walk around down town. I find that if people have to take a bus, often they just stay were they are.

I was thinking about the Sky as well ... you do know that a Maggot works (or worked?) there? It'd be a perfect place if the price was right.
Back to my cave for now, must keep working hard for a few more days...Thrutchworthy Production Services

Aspen Meadows gives us $150/night for double occupancy (maybe triple or quad, as it looks like there's room). This is for Fri-Mon though (second weekend).
Any desire for a welcome party?
Also: where have you guys stayed at prior summits?"I said flotation is groovy"

For Saturday night -Wednesday check-out: Ski-in/Ski-out at Buttermilk. 189/night single/double occupancy. 20/night for each extra person in each room (some of these have room for more than 2). Breakfast included each morning.
All rooms are the same price unless upgrades are requested. That is, if all the lower-priced rooms get booked up before you can confirm your booking, you will not be charged more for a nicer room. However, if you request a nicer room before all the most basic rooms are booked, then you will be charged extra. Numbers for this have not been seen.

You don't want to stay at the Meadows or the Inn. Try contacting the St. Moritz directly; they may not be a member of the camber.
http://www.stmoritzlodge.com/docs/Rates_06-07.pdf
Their rack rate is already lower than anything you've found and they have
hostel rates less than $40 and it's in TOWN.

good call but the St Moritz is part of ACRA. I just got a quote for someone from www.stayaspensnowmass.com and the St Moritz is listed as property.
PS- Aspen Meadows would not be bad.............i would check to make sure they have their shuttle running to and from town. If the shuttle is a go, it won't be that bad. A 15min walk to/from downtown. 5 min in a shuttle

Unless something big happens, I won't be there until the Highlands opener.
Meadows would be just ok, it's a hike. There are just so many places closer.

Sky is going to cost you a bunch of dough especially in march. This is a hot boutique type hotel (trying to be like the roosevelt in LA).
Whoever is taking care of this, i have been living here a long time and could put you intouch with someone who could get you a house in town for a reasonable rate (maybe).
THe inn and the meadows are too far away, you will be dissappointed. Mt chalet would be sweet, more or less right on the mt.
Someone should pm me, I can also potentially get you a group rate on tixs

I went to Aspen last year and my group stayed at Lift One condos. They weren't cheap, but reasonable by Aspen standards. The condos are older and not luxury by any stretch, but comfortable and in a good location. We went the first week in Feb. and a 3 bed/3 bath unit was just under $500 per night. We had six people in the room and didn't feel cramped.
Anyway, just a data point more than anything else.
