    Stockli DP's 184 vs. 193's, help anyone?

I have decided to go with a set of DP pro's 05-present. I was wondering if anyone has skied both the 184's and 193's? Since i moved from AK to Washington (inland/spokompton) I need a shorter ski. I am concerned though if i go with the 184's, they may be to short for killing it/going balls out like i can on my first generation DP's in a 198 (2000), but i am also concerned that the 193's may be too long for this area. Any comments?

I am 6'3" 220 lbs and a very aggresive skier. i like the steeps best, tend to be off piste/ob a lot of the time. I don't generally do the powder 8's style turns, i am much more wide open ripping high speed gs turns. This ski is going to be my all around ski, so it needs to be able to handle in bounds and some hard pack as well, but it will have a set of freerides for binders for ob/bc.

One last thing, does anyone know where to get a pair in good shape on the cheap (used, new, demo's, etc.)...being a grad student REALLY straps the cash flow...

193's, for sure. There were some on ebay brand new a month ago for $400, but nobody bought them....maybe you can dig up the guy's email. There's also demo's on ebay that looked pretty good.

I saw those too late, was out of town and they were sold by the time i got home and droped him a line...are the marker bindings on a lot of those demos worth anything? I would be taking them off for the freerides

In Portillo this August there was a guy who was ripping the 194 DPs. He was about 5' 9" and I guess about 160 lbs. He was an EXCELLENT skier; regular local for him is Verbier.

Hence, I'd go long on the DPs based on what you said

    Stockli DPs

I'd get the 193's. I've skied both. I have the 184's with Naxo's mounted as a bc set up. Would prefer the 193s if resort skiing.

What's wrong with 201s? Seems perfect for a tall, heavier ripper.

well, i am on 198's right now, the inland pac nwest doesn't have many places to let them loose. a lot of tree skiing around here, but no monster steeps, open glades, etc. if there are, they vert isn't much and/or the runs are short...don't get me wrong, i would LOVE to be able to get a pair of those for back home, however, have to be somewhat, gulp, practical in the length i buy....size 15 boots and long boards dont do too well in tighter trees...

So Doc, what do you think about the 193's with freerides for in and ob all around setup? too long? too short?

I dunno. Seems like maybe you should get 188cm Bro stiffs. Then you get lighter weight for touring and a more maneuverable still ripping ski, not to mention a little more girth underfoot.

if he's looking for the dp's I think that he'd want a supa stiff bro.
Also, while Bro's would be good, I think the dp's would be a lot more damp. Two different skis for the same thing

Bro's are made my Pmgear (www.pmgear.com)
Design input comes from the forum. The main players are Splat and tyrone shoelaces, but many many maggots are involved.
Do a search from Bro model, a ton of info will come up

cool. thanks for the info. i will look them up. I a bit curious though, i have never heard of any stockli, especially the DP being refered to as damp. Can you elaborate a bit?

perhaps "damp" isn't the correct term, but what I was getting at was the fact that the DP's have titanal as well as fiberglass, where the bro's are just glass.

ok, now i understand better. thanks for clarifying. so just glass makes them stiff? i always thought the opposite, but i haven't been up on the tech side of ski's for a while...

I sold my old 201 Asteroids after an acl tear. They were a huge plank. I'm on the 186 Asteroids which are longer than my 190 Explosivs and I've been really happy with them.

Previous planks include 200 cm Snow Rangers, the 201 Asteroids and a pair of 200 cm 300 flex Iggy MFFLs. I'm 6' 180lbs and I'm told I ski like a fairy.

I had last year's superstiffs. They were most certainly not damp with the bonus camber. They were most certainly stiff. I haven't skied/flexed DPs but I'd be surprised if they were significantly stiffer.

FWIW, the 184s are suprisingly soft. Much softer tip than an Explosiv for example. I've been told the 193s are a lot stiffer.
