Another Fucking Stupid BRO model question

    Okay...here's how I ski:

I'm fat, pretty lazy, but used to ski pretty well. About 30 days at Kirkwood last year, can't ski a "full" day like I used to. Most days are about 5 hours total skiing. This year i'll end up doing about 40 days probably, will undoubtedly get more fit.

5-10, 225. Strong, wide, "pushing" stance and approach...load the ski and like to pop from turn to turn. My limits are....for you KW guys...I'll drop into early or late season little jim's, where many of you would just straight run the whole thing and drop it. I like my skis to touch the snow

I like a lighter, fun, "poppy" type ski to bounce from turn to turn. I'm lookign for something forgiving that I don't have to push all day.

This would be my "all mountain" ski that I'd roll all over the mountain. These would be my primary sticks. I think I'm going to get a set of the 185, 115mm underfood Kingswoods in the group deal to round out the quiver.

    Skis I like:

    Atomic snoopdaddy
    atomic sugardaddy
    Nordica top fuel hot rod

    Skis I hated

    Volkl mantra
    legend 8800 and 8000

    SO THE QUESTION IS:

For my intended use, would I be better with the 179 soft or the 188 soft bro?

I've searched, i've bugged the fuck out of pat, I just want to support PM gear, what they're trying to do, and have fun this coming season.

Thanks for helping out my fucking retarded question.

You should get the Elan M999, should be nice and stiff for you!

it does sound like you want something with a bit more side cut and perhaps softer (though you arepretty big and i have never flexed the 179) the 188 has apx. a 40 meter radius, its hard to make something like that pop, and the bro is nothing like the nordica top fuel hot rod

At your weight, skiing on the front side, I would personally go for the 188. I've got the 188 stiffs and there's plenty of pop there for me (and I used to be one of those dudes that does 4000 turns per run on 203 Rossi 7s's). The Bro is actually more fun in shorter radius turns than any of the other mid-fats I've tried.

First of all; powderface.........you're a dbag.

To contribute to the thread: I am 6' 190 and ski the 188 softs. They are the right skis for me and I think you would find you like them as well based on your short description. However, if you like the nordica hot rods (a bit stiff as I recall?) you might find the 179 stiff (not soft) to be a better fit. Tough call though, you'd be happy with either. Sometimes I wish I had 179 stiffs, but most of the time I'm happy that I have a little extra underneath the feet. To each is his/her own.

So you are getting Kingsood Fats instead of Midfats so that you can ALSO get Bros to support PM is that what you are saying? If so go with Standard 185 Fats for pow and Stiff 179 Bros IMO. That way you have a legit deep snow ski and a fun All Mountain cranker. Then again you liked the bouncy tip of Jim's Sugar Daddy so maybe get the 179 Bro soft for your fun all mountain ski. It depends on if you're skiing with Jim or with me haha. Then again if you are skiing with me you can rock my Extra flex Midfats.

If you are only getting one ski I think the Standard 185 KW Midfat is your obvious choice because it has way more float than the 179 Bro and a way bouncier/shorter turn and radius than the 188 bro.

188's for the win. Although I would advise against using your BRO's to poach closed out of bounds terrain.

I think they kind of frown on that there.

Jed -- Not sure if you want to wait this long, but if you want. I have a pair of 188 Stiff Bro's mounted with FreeRides and a pair of 179's mounted with 914's both for a 314mm boot sole. If you'd fit into those, you're more than welcome to take 'em both out for a day at the Wood to see how you like 'em.

Fuckall dude....that'd rock. But w/ your guys' lead times way out there, if I do that I probably won't have stick until LATE in the ballgame. I wanna get something going for the season, which, as we all know, will start in the middle of october, cuz we're going to rock 800+ inches again this year.

w/ in house (er..garage) production... I don't think they'll have that problem anymore. It wasn't a pm gear problem, it was the manufactures screwing up and splat saving their ass.

I never thought the whole back-order production thing WAS a problem personally...I have no problem paying or waiting for quality.

I'm still trying to get the close and reopen dates for Hood.
We did it a couple years ago. Some snow would be schweeeet.
There's pics from a couple days ago up at ttips right now. Looks goood.
but it's too early for us to go.

edit: They reopen around the 17th of September.

Just curious, this is for my benefit; What did you like about the Atomics and Nordicas and what did you dislike about the Volkls and Dynastars?

First off, this is copied from from a deal i did for Jim S. (Sierra Ski) on epicski....

Here's the review of the skis:

    Volkl Mantra (184):

My personal ski. The tails were a bit grabby, hard to pull the ski around. Felt wide, but not like there was very much "float"...the ski tended to dig into the snow a bit too much for my tastes, expecially in variable conditions. In powder, the ski didn't float like I would have liked.

Ultimately, at 225 pounds, recall that I also bent this ski after only about 15 days.

    Atomic SugarDaddy (183):

Great Ski. Super fun, super floaty board. Confidence builder. Not really enough shape for a groomer ski, but does carve acceptably well on soft groomers. Would be a bear in hard snow, I'd think. Soft tip provides great float. Very forgiving. Not the most stable ski at high speeds. For big mountain stuff, I'd like a bit more stable board.

    Atomic SnoopDaddy (185):

Turn turn turn is what spells out this super carver. Felt thinner than the 88mm underfoot, but still turny and stable in the variable snow. Made the same turns on the groomer as it does in the chowder. One thing I didn't like--it skis best "back", that is, I couldn't really charge it like I like to. Felt like I wanted a longer ski, even at 185. Should be an exceptional "instructor ski".

    Nordica Hot Rod Nitrous (178):

I loved this ski as an "all arounder". Was awesome on the groomed (would like the top fuel for ripping turns harder though, as this didn't have the "pop" I was looking for all the time) but RIPPED the crud. I really liked this ski. It felt super good in just about every condition. It was solid, felt like an "old timey" ski. I think I would buy this --in this size, but in the Top Fuel model-- as my cruising ski for when there wasn't any new snow.

    Dynastar Legend 8000 (185):

Hated this ski. Tip was WAY too soft. To straight for me too. Just couldn't do anything with this ski. I think I push a ski too much for this model ski.

    Volkl AC3 (174):

I skied this in the same type of conditions at kirkwood. I hated this ski as well. Way too turny, not enough "umph" to it. I overpowered the ski, and it was skiddery. Would be a good ski for an intermediate to lower advanced skier who does a couple days a year, mostly on piste. Also someone who's lighter weight.
