    Flame away...Skiing better then Powder?

Now that I have your attention! Let me first say I am a subscriber to Powder and only read Skiiing magazine at the local Borders over a coffee. I noticed both recent issues have their version of a ski review. Like usual, Powder's provides the eye candy but there is no attempt at ratings, meaningful feedback, etc. On the other hand Skiing has stepped it up by including more fatties (well known and small manufacturers) and attempted to provide some on-snow feedback. One could argue that any feedback is personal, biased, etc. but it is a start. So, suggestion to Powder, actually ski/test the skis and narrow your list to what you consider the best by category. This may piss off advertisers but Powder has the credentials to do this right. And to those that say "demo them you idiot", when have you seen shop demos of Sumo's, LP's, Bro's, etc. (outside of a fellow maggot with the same size foot).

Having worked with Skiing in a past life, I assure you that their "ratings and reviews" are not so much "performance" oriented. Do you get what I'm $aying? Therefore, it's pretty much worthle$$, unle$$, of cour$e, you're an adverti$er.

No flames from here: skiing is a good mag: the mountain anatomy features are one of the most interesting things in any ski mag.

I haven't touched a ski mag for at least two seasons.

Haven't touched a running mag for over 15 years.

    Cycling? Nyet.

This year's college football preview? Well, okay.

I didn't need Powder to tell me I am stoked for this year's Nordica Blower. And the pictures are stokealicious and the article about Collins beatering down Cardiac Ridge and getting back on his feet was awesome. I felt maggot pride reading Splat's article as well.

No hating, new ski mags (no matter which one you buy) mean the season is that much closer!!

The Coombs article is reason enough to buy and keep the issue forever.

I would need to re-check but I know the Goode Scoop was listed in the Powder Ski section. Not likely an advertiser in the magazine.

Well I can tell you from personal experience the ratings on the skis has nothing to do with what the tester felt about in Skiing. I've done the Skipresse test and trust me their results were completely different than what a few of us testers felt about the skis.

I tried running an independent ski test a few years back. Had everything set up to run it untill 2 skiing manufacturers threatened to sue me if I continued. They basically said they can afford Lawyers and I cannot. They were right.

If I want a solid ski review I come in here anyway.

Ski reviews are all full of shit. Doesnt matter how they do them. The only reason Powder even does ski reviews is to give there advertisers an editorial blowjob, so that they will buy more ads. Lets face it the only REAL way to TEST a ski is to do it by your self, since NO ONE skis exactly the same way you do.

Personally I like how powder does it best, instead of ussing a bunch of people that either ski way better or way worse than the average skier writing reviews on skis.

We tested every ski this year. Didn't you see Steve Austin fighting Big Foot? What more justification do you need?

That's not fair, Grant. We give non-advertisers editorial blowjobs, too.

I understand that not all skiers live in a ski town where they can get the beta on just about any ski they'd be interested in- from somebody they know, so these rags play an somewhat impotent role to any person who thinks they're getting good information from a magazine filled with manufacturer advertisments.

Furthermore, unlike the computer industry, where advertisments (think hard numbers, speed, hard drive size, etc.) play an important role in new product roll outs, the skiing ads are IMHO flaccid and lack hard info other than size & side cut.

I've never looked to a ski mag for a ski recommendation.

I like to look at the pics...in all mags Even Skiing will print nice pics. I'll read it at the library and read powder, couloir, ...

    Henceforth ther term "ski porn"

Someday I'm going to start a ski magazine. We will have one issue a year. Reviewing all the skis we can get our hands on. We will provide honest and open feedback.

Powder has great picture stoke, and some good articles; Skiing is OK when sitting on the bowl; Ski Press Mag updates on-line news regularly; SKI is worthless.

The reviews suck and are bias no matter which publication you read. Rather than rely upon the "Best ski in the test", read between the lines (i.e. which ski is stiff/soft; which ski skis short; what is the ski made out of ...foam/wood/metal/glass).

Skier is my favourite mag followed by Powder. I've tried reading Skiing and a couple of others and I just can't get into them. However I do find the ski reviews somewhat interesting to read if for no other reason than keeping up to date on new stuff that is out.

True. Lets keep everything in perspective. If Powder is giving out editorial blow jobs, Skiing and Ski magazine have a fleet of $20.00 Crack whores on call, and Ski Canada operates a free brothel of 8 year old boys in Bangkok.

There we have it, the ski industry sex ring is now out in the open. And you guys thought that S.I.A. was ski realted when its true meaning is Sex Industry of America
