    Dislocated jaw while yawning

    yup.

    Anyone else ever do this?

fuck me, did my morning suck. I now know that hearing the doc say, "Now just relax and go to your happy place." as he prepares to yank the bottom of my jaw back into place is not followed by something good.

    It was an eXXxxxtreme yawn.

Guess that explains why I got a text from you this am, instead of a phone call.

The injury and alleged mechanism could lead to much speculation. Unlike Lemon Boy, and as is my usual practice, I will refrain from any conjecture on Tyronne's recent "adventure" and use this opportunity to wish him a speedy and uneventful recovery.

well given Ty's penchant for roaring back from injuries like last year I'm thinking with a jaw injuries he's gonna be reaching new heights of extreme cunnilingus...all the better for Mrs. Shoe I guess.

dude I should have. Walking around wincing in pain with my mouth stuck wide open and my jaw popped out to the side and drooling would have made a great avatar.

A recording of the sounds I made as I tried to talk to explain what the fuck happened would have been good too.

    "my an ose i outh!"

"huh? what did you say? why don't you close your mouth?"

    "i opp-ed i aw ou!!"

"huh? you popped you eye out?"

"I AW!!! et URRRSS!! et e oo octeRRRRR OW!" [/point to jaw]

"Oh shit...how'd you do that? you need a doctor?"

"ALL THE UCKING OSPIALLL OW!!" [/throwing phone]

Ty you do know that hookers get this kind of injury a lot don't you...??? They don't call it BJ TMJD (Blow Job Temporal-Mandibular Joint Dislocation) for nothing.

Is there something you want to share with the group?

Funny.. yet true. Be careful Ty. I have lots of problems with my jaw thanks to a lot of teeth-grinding and one of the only times it will still catch is when I go for the extended box lunch. So go slow during rehab, she will thank you in the long run.

That was pretty much the most extreme way to get out of a double metric I've ever heard. Word on the street is once you got back from the hospital you asked if there was still time to do the ride???

Never had it happen so extensively, but I did bite into an apple one time and then I couldn't move my jaw for a minute or so. Scary feeling. I have pretty bad tmj. Whenever I open my mouth a certain amount my jaw clicks over to a different alignment. Pain in the ass. Don't do drugs kids.

That sucks. I took a surfboard rail to the jaw joint last night, hard -- brilliant flash of light (this at 7:30 pm, when it was really too dark to see that the incoming wave was the front of a superset), right jaw felt 1 cm dislocated. Fortunately the water was so cold it didn't hurt too much, and it popped right back into place.

Later, the she-yeti had to keep reminding me not to open my jaw too wide...

I think my jaw issue is at least partly a result of previous injuries. 4 concussions, and a flying ski (not mine) to the face and jaw area that split my cheek right open. boom!
I just hope there isn't TOO much powder.

dude you should be psyched. i know you have had a lot of injuries, so i'm sure you have some parts that don't work so well - but you would not believe how often you use your damn jaw!

Oh, also make sure you get good documentation of the injury, b/c most insurance policies will not cover a jaw injury unless there is an associated injury. They will claim that jaw injuries are psychological (you are crazy and in need of the attention of doctors), the result of stress, or should be covered by your dental insurance (which will claim they should be covered by your medical insurance). I have shelled out real grown-up money on this problem - all out of pocket.

I've reduced a handful of those in the ER setting over the past 10 years. But we typically give plenty of Versed and Fentanyl to augment a comfortable, "I can't remember shit" reduction.

Sometimes you end up on the chair, pulling with more force than you would think. Kind of weird pulling like that on someons mandible with a 4x4 on their teeth and your fingers wrapped under their jaw.
