    Footbeds for your Bike shoes-WWMD

Just wondering if anyone has got custom insoles made for their shoes. I have been doing some long six hour rides, i think a good platform under my foot would really help to distribute some pressure.

Not custom, but I have Superfeet footbeds in both my road & mountain shoes. I like them much better than the stock footbeds.
Don’t race. Leave that to the scorchers.

superfeet have a med arch height,

you want a foot bed that matches YOUR arch hight. I have high arch and the soletholtics fit me better.

    Way to test.

foot flat on the floor and keep the ball of the foot down, adn raise the toes up. You want a footbed to match that raised instep height. (that is around "neutral" or the corrected possition of your foot)

almost anyhting in better then the cheap crap that comes with the shoes.

Big issue in cycling shoes is having enough room to fit them in. Sole orthotics take up some room so definitely go with the thin ones. I have Amfit/Surefoots customs in mine to correct severe pronation. Obviously contact is at the forefoot so correction has to be done there with some forefoot cant. Just for distribution of pressure like Mtnkitty says anything that fits your foot shape can help with that. If you want to do more with me I can tell you more of what I did and why.

I think getting more support underneath my Arch is going to be key, right now a majority of the force is under the front of my foot, I also want it to make the shoe fit a bit more snug between the top of foot and my shoe, i can't go any smaller in shoe size and i feel i have to crank down to tight cutting of circulation.

Ulty, you're right. The Specialized insoles are pretty good and with the varus/valgus shims they come with and three different arch heights they come in you can really tailor the fit for most people. What they are shooting for in their design concept is to fit 80% of the people as well as an out of the box system can. They've done a pretty good job achieving it.

Pedro, you are pretty close to NYC right? You should stop in my shop sometime and I'll get your shoes all dialed in.

Cool....Im down in the Philly area, I usually pass through NYC to see my parents on LI once a month or so...I am doing a 6 hour race on sunday, I may try to take the shoes somewhere around here this week.

Do you know any of the Guys at Cadence in Manyunk? I was thinking of stopping by there.

    Nope. Plakespear might though.

If you come across by the Lincoln Tunnel I'm just a few blocks above Canal St where it comes in. Next time you're here lemme know. I work both Friday and Saturday so we can take care of it then if you want.

    Good luck this weekend!
