Thread: Pool Tables: Slate vs ???

I'm kind of a jong when comes to pool tables, but we decided to get one for the house. What's the difference between slate and the other kind? I guess wood is the other kind? We aren't looking for anything fancy, just a decent table to put in the garage and drink alot of beer around. Is slate a must or is the other type good enough?

My thought is that, if you're going to keep it in a non-climate-controlled place like a garage, if you get anything other than slate it will warp to shit and be totally worthless. But I don't know.

Actually, sounds like you do know. Slate is the way to go unless you don't care about the balls taking their own path due to a bow, crown, or warp in the table surface. You get what you pay for.

Okay, Mr Dallas is all kinds of happy now.. but you can have fun on the "slatron" products. It's a matter of budget and how serious you want to be.
