Mark Helprin->The Pacific->Perfection
Read it. A spin over the mad helical roller coasters of emotions from raving absurdity to murders and a focus on the sublime ledgers of conduct which we now so sorely miss.
A Hassidic adolescent teaches Mickey Mantle and the Yankees all about winning.
Helprin is a genius of deft brutality.Last edited by Buster Highmen; 06-06-2006 at 12:11 PM.

I love Mark Helprin, one of the most underrated authors out there. "A Solider of the Great War" and "Winter Tale" are amazing books. Is this his latest?

Chronologically, I don't know, I think it was written after A Winter's Tale, but the cr is 1982, I think.
Anyway, read it. Best story I've read in a long, long time. Tears came to my eyes in humor and despair.Merde De Glace

Same Mark Helprin that is in charge of ABC News' Political Unit. He's pretty awesome (if I have the right guy).

I don't think he's in charge.
Here's his website. Some good political writing there too.
