    Buffalo Mtn TR 6-3-06

To the indengenous Native Americans the big round hill above Silverthorne Colorado resembled a sleeping buffalo. I don't see it, maybe you can. We hiked up the spine O' the bison and descended the northern more narrow coulior. Our lines: (Can you see the buffalo?)

6am at the trailhead. The Dramatis Personae Included TTips elder statesman Cesare, THE manno - Danno, The guy with WAY too much spare time right now - Rontele. With special guest appearances by my new friends Icculus and BoulderTele. Rontele and Icculus gearing up:

Cesare and Icculus hiking out of the shade into the early morning sun. We were following some sucker tracks on the way up that stopped short below tree line. We bushwacked above the snow and had a grueling scramble over talus to the actual trail. This slowed everybody down down threatening our window of opportunity to ski down safely.

Obligatory shot of Mountain Goats. We saw these two guys, a couple of friendly ptarmigan, and lots of assorted cat prints in the mud and snow.

Cesare showing BoulderTele the proper wedge turn. Next we learned how to flail our arms around and scream like little girls in preparation for the coulior above.

We summited and climbed down a bit to the snow field that marked our entrance to the coulior. A large rolling football field of snow that dumped out into the increasingly narrow coulior. We started down at 10:30 AM. Almost too late...
Icculus showing us how it's done:

    Cesare's usual stylin' turns:

BoulderTele amazed us all with his tele-style. For a guy who has only been skiing for 4 seasons this guy ripped it up!

Another shot I liked of Cesare descending the corn coulie:

This is one LONG-ass coulior. We stopped periodically to re-group and line up for pictures. Danno taking a break.

    BoulderTele:

    Rontele:

    Danno:

Cesare on the way down as Rontele looks on:

    BoulderTele doing the Corn-Dance!

Icculus negotiating the patchwork of brown/white snow.:

BT tearing the buffalo a new corn-hole!
    sorry

I'm pretty sure this is Danno's closing argument for the joys of spring skiing:

The hike out wasn't too bad. we found the right trail at the bottom of the gully and guess what...it was mostly uphill to the car...so it seemed...how can it be uphill both ways? Behold the wonders of physics and spring skiing! We passed through some amazing and sobering avalanche fields. Enormous trees thrown around like toothpicks.

We finally made it back to the cars, and then a short drive to the Dam Brewery. After burgers and beer we called it an awesome day!

Looking forward to your other shots!!

    Wow...a pentuple post!
Marshal and the stuttering reply button...

Rontele. All of the other pics were much more sicktarded than that one. If your turns were any more gorillish, then Diane Fossey would come come back from the grave just to dig in their stools.

of course who am I to talk about ugly turns?

Looks like Marshal found a bag of Meth.

Cool TR Telehoar! Way to get it done.
It really does look like a Buffalo!
I've lived on the side of that mountain for 3 years, and I still haven't skied that coolie. I'm a lazy bastard. Props.

Funny, I was getting up at 3:30am. Still paying for it today (not to self: going out drinking the previous night before attempting Buffalo Mt is not a good idea).

As a reformed tele guy, had to do it.

Looks like you found hte proper entrance to the coolie and had a great time. A super fun run, maybe my favorite in Colorado in the spring.

    Sickness...

random story about Buffalo Mt. My first time driving through Eisenhowere tunnel after I moved out here I was blasting some Bob Marley... anywho, I remembered that Buffalo Soldier came on just as I pulled out of the tunnel and saw the huge avi fields on Buffalo, well, learned the name about 10 minutes later... OK, dumb story, but you read the whole thing didn't you...

Dude, one time I was driving down to Mexico City and came through the mountains and the clouds were all like laying down on the valley floor. And Scuse me while I kiss the sky was blasting. Hendrix rools!
