I have a beautiful, carefully maintained, nearly mint 2004 Yamaha acoustic that I got at Costco for $60. So fuck all you guys. I'm more than a little jealous.
I got the guitar when I was a senior in high school because I needed to take an arts class, and i was bored of brass (I played the trumpet for a while). I never really got into it until about 6 or 7 months ago, when my friend taught me a few songs. I've played almost every day since, and now I'VE GOT BLISTERS ON ME FINGERS! I'm loving it, and I can't imagine stopping.
While I've got you all in one place, can any of you hit me with some advice on what I should start learning to progress from the beginner stage? I got no money for lessons or I wouldn't be asking.

They get played. I have stopped gigging out but am working on a 2nd CD which I hope to release in 2009 on CDbaby and iTUNES. The first one sucked and was kind of a joke. This one will be much better...which isn't saying a lot.
Youtube has some absolutely great lessons. It depends what you want to learn: chords, scales, songs, etc. You do have to wade through some crap but still......Every man dies. Not every man lives.

Well, I started playing in 1979. I'm lucky to have those albeit I might be selling some off.

Awesome, thanks Jim! I'll definitely check those out. And I thought youtube was just for wasting time.
And to whoever it was that recommended it, I did read Clapton's autobiography. He may be an incredible guitar player, but he's a fucking terrible writer. Still a good read though.

Jak and Jil skinned up the hill to rip some epic lines...
Jak cruised down throwing a huge mute 3...
Followed by Jil with a 9.
