Mt. Hood mini, anyone???
July 4th is approaching us, folks. How many people this year plan to get up/down to Mt. Hood this year for the 4th?
It's either that, or ski Mt. Shasta. I need a plan!

there are currently plans for the crinkle clan to be in Portland for July 4th and it wouldn't be difficult to bring skis along. Consider the arm twisted and me there.

I think there's a definite chance of getting some of the Seattle crew down.
Myself included, although the 4th is on a tuesday, so I could probably only make it down for the weekend. Who knows?
Might want to put this in the main forum.

I'm doing a Cascade Volcano tour around that time. Only definite plan so far is an Adams attempt July 2nd, so I'll be in the area, 4th a Hood sounds better then trying to beeline it back down to Mammoth.
Looking for partners to climb other Cascade Volcanoes around that time too.

Drive down Saturday after wedding gig, ski Sunday, drive back Sunday night, work Monday. Now there's a full weekend.
In drove this drunken madman and stopped on a dime! Unfortunately the dime was in Mr. Rococo's pocket!

GRRRRREAT! Sounds like a plan then. Lego and I are in! We'll be taking the long way up along the 395 from Reno, and stopping in Monument, OR to visit a friend. I look forward to meeting Altachic and her people, and hanging out with R and Fiddler again. And all'y'all.
Viva - Lego and I would like to do Shasta. Those dates sound good - are you looking for some people to join you?

Magic 8 ball says I have no clue.
But Lassen is an option about this time of the year.
I say we hit it next week, so you can get your Shasta legs, dg.

05-22-2006, 12:40 AM #14That would probably work for me, I'll be tooling around the Cascades. I have to warn you, I'm not having much luck with the weather at Shasta, just got back today from my 3rd attempt in 3 years, weather has turned me around all three times.

Hotlum-Winthum Ridge would be my first choice, but not sure if the road will have melted out by then, 14 miles right now. Avy Gulch via Horse Camp base camp and the West Face via Hidden Valley are the two routes I've tried, it was snowing and windy when we woke up in Hidden Valley this AM. I've been thinking of just a one day push from Bunny Flats too, may climb Avy Gulch then ski the West Face.
Also, the road through Lassen isn't expected to open until MID-JULY this year! I drove into the park this afternoon, it's open up to the Devastated Area. You can ski right from your car there, lots of snow. No car shuttle option for the summit right now. It was raining and I saw enough bad weather this weekend, so I didn't stay, headed back to Tahoe.

timberline is a full waste of time and anyone who drives more than two hours to go there if you dont trow bio 9's over the big hip has a problem with thier cognitive reasoning.

I won't know until last minute, but I'd love to get back there. Slushy park skiing kicks ass and so does camping and getting trashed with tons of maggots.

the gf and I have chatted about it, and we might be interested as well. It would be great to go back after missing the 4th on Hood the last couple seasons...

I live in Portland, and would definately be down to ski.
If any maggots were in town and needed to borrow some sticks send me a PM and you're welcome to borrow what I'm not using in my quiver.
Other than that I can name a few good places to drink and give rides as well (I still have ski racks on my Jimmy).

Anybody else thinking about Mammoth for the Fourth?
-
05-23-2006, 11:55 AM #22
Hood would be fun....haven't been there in 2 years I think?
But hard to justify driving that far from NorCal when Mammoth will be open too. Plus Mammoth will have MUCH more interesting terrain and longer runs to ski if it's anything like last year. If I ski on the 4th it will be at Mammoth.Waste your time, read my crap, at:

Maggots could guess draw straws for the couch(es) at my house if there's any demand I suppose.
