Ski Tests - Carving at Taos [Atomic RX11, Dynastar Omecarve 10, Volkl 6 Star]
Since it was mostly a groomer week at Taos I tested some skis.
Atomic SX 11 Supercross: This ski kicks ass! In a 160 (I am 5' 9") it was a little rocket, and carved very well. Does not feel dead at all - a very lively ski. My favorite of the week, and I want a pair.
Dynastar Omecarve 10 Very tight turning ski, felt mildy lively, and can carry some serious speed for such a turny little beast. Tested in a 158.
Volkl 6 Star
Very stable ski. Once locked into a turn nothing short of an avalanche will knock you off track. Carves pretty tight turns - though I put this more toward the mid-fat category. Good in the heavy crud too. This is a heavy ski that does not feel very lively. It was my least favorite of the three. Tested in a 168."Steve McQueen's got nothing on me" - Clutch

Maybe you just need to learn how to use your legs. The 6-star seems plenty lively and they ride on rails.
No.

Why did you ski everything in a 160 and the 6* in a 168?
Fun ski, really think the Dynastar is the dog in the group personally. Haven't skied the Sx11 short just in an 80 length.Skiing, where my mind is even if my body isn't.

I thought that ski was so light and so lively. Probably one of the nicest skis I've ever been on. You shoulda tried it in a longer length, I think mine was 175

I recently tried a similar ski, the skicross 10 from dynastar, and have to say its one hell of a fun ski. I tried it in a 170, and it was the quickest turning bitch I've skied yet. It loves to rail on edge too, and has a very light feel compared to my x-screams (which are heavy biotches)

Keep in mind that I tested alongside the Atomic RX11, which is a super lively ski. I regularly ski on Dynastar Intuitiv 74's in a 175, which are also livlier than the 6 Star.
Regardless, the 6 star is a great ski in that it is super solid in holding a line. The other two skis just cut tighter turns. Speed-wise the Atomic in a 160 felt as fast as the 6 Star in a 168.Last edited by Mcwop; 01-14-2004 at 07:28 AM.

Forgot to ask, how was it? Anything open up or pretty much stay on the lower part of the mountain? Rocky still?
