New horse in the stable!!!
So I picked up an addition to the stable last weekend:
I was down in Moab with a few friends, and planned on demoing a few bikes to see what felt right. Tried an Ellsworth Epiphany on Saturday...but it didn't really feel right (I think a longer stem would have helped, but you can only do so much with a demo). Sunday I picked up a 575 from Poison Spider and headed out. This bike felt right from the start. Got back to the shop and started talking about when they sell their demos...and he offered it to me on the spot. Got a good price on it, so it came home with me.
Here's the specs:
Fork: Fox Float
Shock: Fox RP3
Front Der: XT
Rear Der: Sram X-7 (this is getting changed to XT)
Shifters: Sram X-9 (these will be swapped out for XT)
Brakes: Hayes Nine
Race Face cranks, seatpost, stem
My hardtails aren't going anywhere just yet. I'm still planning on a 2-man single-speed team for the 12 hour race in Park City this summer.[This Space For Rent]

Are those High Roller tires? How do you like them?
(thinking about making the switch from Conti vert pro's)

Congrats, that is a sick bike.

Nice ride. Yet another maggot Yeti lemming.
One question: why swap the SRAM for Shimano?
SRAM = way mo' better

Nice SB!
I was wondering the same thing...

They generally check the bike out before selling it, but I was leaving that day...so I'm getting a complete suspension rebuild in 2 weeks when I'm back down there again (of course that means a day of no riding on it).

Mostly to go to Shimano shifters...I miss the trigger on the shifter. Maybe I'd get used to all thumb shifting if I rode it enough. Some of it just comes down to knowing Shimano stuff a little better.

I used to really like the Team colors. Then this weekend p-ho said it was "cute." Now I'm not so sure...

Nice looking horse! Top notch parts. Looking forward to riding with the Utah dudes/dudettes this summer!

04-27-2006, 08:17 PM #16My MTB tech is always telling me that the Sram I have is way better than Shimano, that Shimano is not up to the hype, and with Shimano you're just paying for a brand name, not better quality components.

Nice, nice! Glad that worked out for ya!

Yeah, nice bike! Damn I'm jonesin for mine.
As far as tires go, I'd hang onto those for Moab trips...IMHO the Minion is the greatest tire of all time....but for something lighter/more xc style check out WTB Weirwolfs. A pair of 2.3s would do you right for riding around SLC/PC, you could even throw a 2.1 on the back if you wanted something a little lighter.
Homerjay: Depending on how you ride, either the Weirwolfs or Minion DHF front tire/High Roller rear would be a good change from the Conti. I used to really dig that Conti, but now I find it a bit squirrely compared to these other tires I've mentioned.

Nice bike. I second the minion dhf thang. Probably the best all around tread pattern in the history of ever.

DO NOT SWITCH THE SRAM TO SHIMANO!!!!! Especially not for XT. That would be the equivalent of ditching something like Gotamas and buying beginner rental skis.
If you really want to use your index finger, check out the new X.0 shifters. I think they can be configured for that. Frankly, I can't stand using my index finger anymore. I could never go back from all thumb.
As for tires I haven't tried the Minions yet, but I luuuuuuuuv my Nevegals.Last edited by Arty50; 04-28-2006 at 12:26 PM.
