    Bootleg Canyon?

Anyone been there? What did you think? Did you ride the XC, DH, or both sets of trails? Did you shuttle? And would it be intolerably hot in early-mid May?

Never been there but I had this link saved on my work pc. It is some footy via helmet cam.

Since then it's been a book you read in reverse, so you understand less as the pages turn.

I thought the DH trails were pretty gnarly, not because of stunts or drops, but because there is rock everywhere. The trails really force you to ride pretty slow even on a big bike. I went in late October and it was still pretty damn warm, but you never know during the spring. Riding up the trails would not have been a possibility on a DH bike... the road up there is fairly steep and gravely. We shuttled with random people we saw going up to the top but on weekend I know the local shop runs shuttles. I saw a few of the many xc trails they have and they look pretty sweet, but in the blazing sun I'm sure they can straight up bake you since there are NO trees. There is also a killer dirt jump area at the start of the road complete with a gazebo, picnic tables, and showers.

I rode there for 1/2 a day during the Dirt Demo 2 years ago, I did a couple DH runs and the short XC loops at the bottom. It is defintitely worth checking out. Like Funken said, its pretty much all natural, and naturally gnarly. Once i figured out that its better to keep your tires on the nasty jagged rock as much as possible cuz the traction is unbelievable, I was able to flow the trails better. I've heard great things about all the trails from people who have spent more time there. I'd like to make it back next fall or winter.
It also puts you in attack range of Virgin/St George which is a bonus.

Bootleg is worth a trip. I go there at least once every winter. The dh trails are better than the xc trails in my opinion but both are fun and worth a looksie.

If you do the dh thing, call these guys. They run a shuttle on weekends. Not sure what time of they year they quit.

Good info, thanks. I'm considering checking it out after the Mammoth Mini if I decide to go solo and everything else works out.

Also curious about the Sedona area trails...maybe I'll start a new thread.

Hey Spats - Ridden the Bootleg trails the past 3 years at the bike show, good enough but definitely desert riding, hard & rocky with no shade anywhere. Liked the CC trails, lotsa loops and possibilities, especially west of the main fire road. Thought the DH were pretty beat but could also be my lack of skill on the true gnarly steeps. Overall just didn't seem special enough so I'd venture all the way there just for the riding.
Been to Sedona and the riding's OK there but I do highly recommend the trails up at Flagstaff! Might be too early to escape the snow &/or mud up there but probably worth a call to a local bike shop in a couple weeks to see how the trails are.
No go on the Bay Area trails? Just too much of a mud bog still?

Uhh, I think Flagstaff got about 10" of snow this year.
