pretty sure a dog would shred a coat before it died because of a trapped paw... not that it isn't something to worry about.
Murphy can chew through the nylon strap of a harness in about 5 minutes.

What sort of coat does a bloodhound have? Is it pretty thin? Our boy is bloodhound/lab mix. He's getting that lab double coat along the ridge of his back, but either puppy coat still most other places or he's gonna have some sort of hound coat. Does that even happen; mixed coat?

Leia's coat is pretty short single coat, but she's also only 8 months old so maybe it'll grow in more. Then again she's a fila, not a bloodhound so it's really neither here nor there with regards to your question. The bloodhounds I've seen though are all short haired.
