I saw this on the news this morning. They were a little vague but it sounded like a cross country skier that got seperated from his group and was found dead above treeline this morning.

Yeah, my buddy works at the Henderson moly mine up there - said they had a sheriff and what looked like some search and rescue people out there.

I figured a slide must have occured... but doesn't sound like it now...

I also heard it was nuking up there - visilbility must have been horrible.

    Sucks... RIP.

Turns out the victim is John Fielder III, the son of John Fielder the famous CO photog...tragic, will be curioius to see details as it doesn't appear slide related...that is one of the most heavily traveled BC areas near Denver, which just reminds you of the objective dangers everytime you walk into the woods. Fielder senior has made his life's work out of photographicing every wild, scenic and historic place in the state including many long treks in the backcountry, both summer and winter, over the years with his family as support crew, so I'm sure that his son was skilled and knowledgeable.

The link quotes the father as saying it is suicide.

    RIP.

How sad. I wonder if he suffered from some sort of psychological disorder such as depression?

    RIP.

Bummer, it's a shame to hear that someone living a life as good as the one we all appreciate so much felt the need to take his own life.

    Rest in Peace, hopefully.

All that much sadder, but given the relatively benign area, lack of any significant weather factors or terrain issues, and my perception (correctly, from reports) that this kid knew his way around in the outdoors, suicide was the first question that popped into my mind.
