    Ski descent difficulty ratings?

There's an attempt to start a discussion on Lou Dawson's proposed ski descent rating system (D-scale) over at Biglines.com. I can't locate the original article, but the biglines one is @http://www.biglines.com/articles_rea...le=8&read=2817
In the summer I climb. I have often joked with fellow climbers that the ski ratings don't really mean anything, since you can slide down a black run on your ass, but I can't get off the ground on a 5.12c. So while it would be nice to have some sort of nailed down rating system, it'll be difficult and subjective. Furthermore, while theD scale seems to address steep pitches and "obstacles" there really is no consideration for mandatory air in / out, getting cliffed out due to route finding, or even snow conditions (D2 if POW, D22 IF BONY ?!)
What do other people think about it? I don't think I'll be able to take the "grade collecting" if this catches on.
