Thread: helmet advice (i searched)

so i decided to invest in a helmet for when i go to CO in march, since my friend over there strongly suggested i should. and its come down to these 2 choices. im looking for something decent, and something that doesnt break the bank, under $60 really. i dont use a helmet on the east coast, but i dont know what to expect from the west, so better safe than sorry.

anyway, which one would be a better choice?

RED skycap. i tried it on at sports authority (who hiked the price all the way to $90) and it fit pretty well.

havent really heard anything about the brand, except for the dude at the store telling me theyre a quality brand. cant deny that $40 is a great deal.

same story on the brand. their "catalog" says this is the high end helmet. i dont really care so much, i just dont want to crack my skull if it comes to that. price is the same as the RED, so no real selling point unless people tell me that this is a more quality helmet.

Can't give too much input, but I would be wary of the two tripple eight helmets just because they don't look like they have much ventilation. I made the mistake of buying a similiar setup, and it works, but I definately over heat at times.

buy giro. Surgery is more expensive.

If you don't need a helmet on the east coast, you don't need one out west. Buy one for comfort, not safety. Ventilation is vital and the cheapies are usually lacking.

i think the ebay dude is still selling flint sc's for relatively inexpensive. Removable visor and chingaurd as well. Good value.

Smith is coming out with a pretty sweet line next year. Look like Giros, but allow more airflow.

Triple true. If it doesn't fit and isn't comfortable then you won't wear it, and then it does you no good at all.

Yeh, much more comfortable, and warm, than a hat.

ok, thanks for all the suggestions guys! one more question, regarding fit. im like right in the in-between of medium and large. my head is like 57-58cm...would you go with the large or medium? both fit ok, the med. is obviously more snug, but i was trying it on w/o anything else. im planning on wearing a thin beanie just for cushioning and some added warmth.
