    Fishcer 106 v Sugar Daddy

Anyone skied these two skis that can compare them? I'm looking at the 183 Sugar's and 180 106. I'm 5'9 and 155 so not a huge dude looking for a medium stiff pow/crud bustin machine to mach western (Mammoth, Alta, JH) mtns on. Probably put fritchi's on them, but undecided about that too so if people have touring experience I'm all ears.

    Cheers,
He who has the most fun wins!

I got the 106s in a 190 with Freerides and love 'em. Not exactly the lightest AT setup, but the descent makes up for it. A tad softer than the sugars, but they have great flotation. They take a little more work to get them to go where you want, but once you figure them out they are a lot of fun. Super stable at all speeds and conditions.

Sugar Daddys are stiffer and are going to be better for the crud end of the spectrum. 106s are absolutely perfect in powder/cut up powder - anything until it gets packed down and lumpy and then they start to deflect and take some work. This was a subject of debate in another thread about 106s, but IMO - while I think they're the perfect powder/chop ski, I don't like them once it's REALLY cruddy/bumpy/etc. They rail on groomers though.

If you're looking for an everyday ski, I'd go with Sugar Daddies - if you're looking for a powder ski to add to a quiver I'd go with 106s.

    Cool 106's Rip

Just picked up a pair of Big Stix 106 170's. They are the funnest ski I've ever been on. They absolutely rip anything. I got them shorter for tight trees and tight chutes. I took them in some wind packed dry styrofoam to the groomers and back to the chopped up cruddy crud. They are like driving an Abrahms tank over an Iraqi soldier. They totally crush anything in sight. The funniest thing about skiing these fattys are that a snowboarder I rode a chair with said " Hey dude, those things are kinda wide" I just laughed and smiled and said "YA"!

    Yep.

My dog did not bite your dog, your dog bit first, and I don't have a dog.

    Here's the downlow

    Fischer Big Stix 106's
    180cm
    Salomon 916's (racestock)

First off let me say, they rip. Rode them the last two days. First run very weird, seemed like it took forever to get them on edge. As soon as I was accustomed to that feeling it was game on. Even though they are a bit on the soft side (comparing to my last ski - XXX), they ride like tanks. The conditions on lift served stuff at Bridger was pretty well bumped out and pretty hard. Some places offered ice for the testing grounds.

Coming down the steeps in the bumps they skied very well. I thought they were responsive and found myself easily airing from bump to bump.

On Bronco, where the bumps were full-on, they did not perform that great, but not all that bad. Just as I would have expected. I had to be on my game to make it happen.

    In the crud, no comparison

Up on the Ridge, they got their first taste of some boot deep. Fucking money I tell you. Floating like a banshee above the grave. Creamy turns, effortless.

Groomers, they arc massive gs/super g turns with no problems. A few times, my weight was obvioiusly not where it need to be and they wobbled to the point of almost taking me down.

All in all, they fucking kick ass. I'll be rockin' em most days, unless it is super icy or all bumps.
