Stay high on the ridges and you won't get as moist:
(from current http://www.nwac.us/products/SABNW)
EXTENDED WEATHER DISCUSSION FOR WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY
Continued southwest flow aloft with bring more frontal systems
across the area from the southwest Wednesday through Friday.
Currently frontal passages are expected Thursday morning and
again Friday morning. Freezing levels should rise ahead and with
both frontal passages however, the overall trend is for gradually
lowering freezing levels. The greatest precipitation in the
strong south to southwest flow is expected over the south slopes
of the Olympics and volcanic peaks with less precipitation
expected near the Cascade crest and passes. East pass flow may
again lower freezing levels through the passes and bring a threat
of freezing rain early Thursday. A wind shift is expected later
Thursday morning maintaining free air freezing levels through
Friday.

Wednesday: Decreasing light rain or snow showers.
Wednesday night and early Thursday: Increasing moderate to heavy
rain or snow with a chance of freezing rain lower Cascade passes.
Late Thursday: Rain or snow changing to showers.

heaviest along the volcanic peaks and south slopes Olympics.

I'm somewhat happy about it.
There's a layer of faceted surface hoar everywhere sheltered. It made for good skiing yesterday, but it would be a layer from hell if it snowed on top of the cohesionless crystals.
If it rains, then gets cold, and snows, the layers will bond far better.
If it just rains, and never snows, I'll get pissed.

Current temps at 7pm:
Baker 42
Crystal Summit 37
Snoq & Stevens- only a matter of time once that ice storm clears (top of Alpy's at 29 right now)
Didn't we see enough of this last year???
But I'm over it. I'm still skiing this weekend.
NOAA discussion at least points to a slowly lowering freezing level by Friday.
We've already lost about 3+ feet of base in December. Where's that sweet Canadian artic air when you need it?
BEYOND TUESDAY...ANOTHER LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE NORTHEAST ACROSS THE ERN PAC...KEEPING MILD SOUTHERLY FLOW IN PLACE WITH YET ANOTHER TRIPLE POINT-SLUG OF MOISTURE AND PRECIP TO CONTEND WITH. .LONG TERM...THE WAVE TRAIN CONTINUES WITH YET ANOTHER WAVE ON THURSDAY. THURSDAY`S WAVE WILL FINALLY DRAG A COLD FRONT AND A BROAD UPPER TROUGH ACROSS WRN WA. AN UPPER RIDGE REBUILDS OVER THE ERN PAC ON FRI...PUSHING A JUICY WARM FRONT NORTH ALONG THE COAST.Last edited by Squirrel99; 12-20-2005 at 12:37 AM.

This is why living in Colorado isn't all that bad
. High altitude, lower temps = no rain. Bring on the moisture!

I don't think you people have lived in the PNW very long because rain on the
mtns is common. I've skied every ski area in the PNW and we got rained on all the time.

Western Montana is supposed to get some of that P-Express too
But like someone said, it if rains a bit, it will nuke the hoar frost, then get a bit colder with some snow === good bond.

-17 yesterday morning in Kalispell, forecasted rain this afternoon, Ullr must be super pissed at us. And I still get more powder turns per year in Montana than I ever got in Colorado, not that I'm dissing Colorado, Berthoud And A-basin provided some of the most memorable ski days of my life, I just don't want to live there.
