Thread: filters (more lens stuff)

So I'm in the process of buying some lenses based somewhat on the recommendations in my last thread, and now I need some filters to put on them for protection. I'm thinking just plain UV filters, since they're pretty cheap and keep extra UV out. What are some decent brands? It seems like Canon and Hoya are reasonably priced but not cheap... any suggestions?

This probably won't go on too much longer, since what can I really buy other than the camera body, lenses, lens hoods, and filters? Well, maybe an extra battery and another SD card, but that's not a big deal. (Oh, and before anyone trys to point out that the 350D uses CF not SD, I have an SD to CF adapter.)

Will SD-CF give you the speed performance?

B+W or Hoya HMC for your high use filters, you can go with Tiffen MC for low use if you want to save some $$$.

A circular polarizing filter is useful. For some landscapes a graduated ND filter works (you can often get a similar effect using photoshop now though). Stepup rings can be useful.

The only filters that I use are B+W UV filters on all of my lenses.

I've been using it with a slow SD card, but it's still faster than any CF card I currently own. Plus for some strange reason my Canon can format it in-camera even though it shouldn't be able to.

I figure everything's moving to SD, so I want to invest in that rather than end up with more CF cards that don't work in new cameras.
