What a damn tale of woe
My poor brother has had the shittiest year of anyone I know.
He's an attorney and he's been working on a single case for two straight years representing 8 molested kids against the Salvation Army. The guy has been working 15 hours a day, 7 days a week for longer than I can remember. He and one other attorney are up against this giant LA law firm with 150 atorneys and shit tons of support staff. He hasn't taken a salary in a year and a half. He's completely drained. He has nothing left. You can see it in his face.
So the trial is under way in Kenai, he's living out of a motel, and he comes down with bacterial bronchitis. So now he'ssick and trying to keep a good face for a jury and then his fucking dog dies.
No time to grieve, he's still plugging away against big odds and sicker than shit.
Three days ago, (while he's out of town trying this case) the pipes burst in his house. It wasn't caught until yesterday. (It's a duplex - the pipes burst on the tenant side after they moved out and no one is around to catch it.) So far we've pumped out SIXTY THOUSAND GALLONS OF WATER. there was 5 1/2 feet of standing water in the basement. I think the house is a total.
To make it worse, the pipe problem may be caused by some work done by the tennents. If this is the case, it looks like it will negate the insurance.
At the same time, he has to finish this case for the sake of the kids, so he can't take the time to deal with it. Looks like the case will run for at least another five weeks with a day off for Christmas and a day off for new years.
What a damn mess. The poor guy just needs a year or so of sleep.
Positive vibes for the Brother of Owens (AKA - Owens Needs Some Sleeps) would be appreciated. When you're feeling down, just remember: It's always darkest before it goes pitch .... fucking.... black.

Salvation Army is evil. Nasty people pretending to do God's work. Good Karma to the brother!
It isn't necessary to imagine the world ending in fire or ice. There are two other possibilities: one is paperwork, and the other is nostalgia.

Good to know that someone is fighting for what's right, unfortunate that bad things happen to good people.

You know, there's like a butt-load of gangs at this school. This one gang kept wanting me to join because I'm pretty good with a bowstaff.

These guys actually brought in a previously convicted child molester priest to coach the accused preist on how to calm his parishioners down...When you're feeling down, just remember: It's always darkest before it goes pitch .... fucking.... black.

Ain't it grand?
The churches take their cues from the corporations and everyone gets a shit sandwhich and a sermon on righteousness from the hell-bound assholes with the money. What a fuckin joke and PROPS to a lawyer showing some principle when the churches are incapable of decent behavior.
I've been plunking money in those little kettles for the last week. That just ended.

We should get him to take some time off to come down to the Tahoe Summit. Not only will that improve his mood/life, but it will also gaurantee lots of powder, since Karma will definitely be with him.
(On the other hand if iceman shows up, maybe your brother's good powder vibes will collide with iceman's bad powder vibes, and we'll have some sort of crazy explosion.)

edit: not all churches are huge money grubbing orgainzations intent on suckling cash from stupid people, my father in law is a Luthern pastor and as he puts it our church gives new meaning to the phrase not for profit, we barely can keep the lights and heat running but we still enable an AA group to meet 3 nights a week, run a day care and after school program to keep kids off the streets, collect cans and clothing for local homeless shelters, I'm not trying to preach or lecture about the importace of religion or god or any of that other bullshit that pat robertson and the rest of the coalition that really isn't too christian would like to be implanted in everyones brain. Belive what you want and always seek the truth in everything you do, and look out for those less fortunate then you are. That I think is basically the most important lesson that anyone can learn and if you get it in a church or not thats what we're all working towards I guess.Last edited by laseranimal; 12-10-2003 at 07:57 PM.

I fail to add that I hope that your brother nails the bastards to the wall by their genitalia and lets the kids use electric cattle prods on the fucking molesters nipples. Anyone who hurts a kid ought to go away for a LONG fucking time
